FYI: I bought my EE from pcukid in June. On June 8 he/they sent me the following reply to my question about no returns (even if defective):
"Sorry I couldn't get back to you before the auction ended. If the item comes defective (this does happen extremely rarely) please contact us and we will work to get you an R.M.A. with our distributor. Thanks for the bid, - pcukid" I don't know if their policy has changed, but I would imagine they would still be willing to help anyone who gets a bad unit. Wish I had a reason to buy a second EE! ![]() |

I don't mean to hijack the thread or beat a dead horse but I'm having a tough time deciding whether or not to return my Thrive and pick up an eDge. I have to admit - the capacitive screen, relatively light weight and Honeycomb w/ Market make it kind of hard to justify losing all this to "downgrade", on the other hand with a case on the Thrive the weight difference is only a few ounces and I get the luxury of having a big e-ink screen. My only concerns is getting unit that gets the WSOD at some point and potentially not finding a replacement (it is likely that SquareTrade would just give me the money to purchase a new one, which in this case wouldn't actually be enough since this is a very rare occurrence to find one this cheap). Does anyone want to help convince me that I should go for the fullsize EE? Having a Honeycomb device with Tegra 2 is nice in terms of development stuff though.

Hi krewskater!
![]() I would be tempted to keep the Thrive if you like it. I haven't looked at its specs, but it sounds more future-proof, which seems to matter to you. I love my EE, don't get me wrong. And for $170 it is worth it for the large e-ink screen alone, but not if you have to give up another device that does other things that you also want . . . you know what I mean?? One point: The EE is not as prone to WSoD as the PE (I believe). Instead, it has more issues with hibernation and browser crashing. Gonna look up the Thrive now. ![]() Edit: Hmmmm. HDMI, Flash, probably handles any app you want . . . fast, company support . . . . I'd keep that puppy! ![]() Good luck! I hope you'll be happy with whatever you decide. ![]() Last edited by Filark; 08-08-2011 at 03:05 AM. |

The only people who are really happy with an edge, by and large, are those who value the wacom and e-ink above all else. Many of us would never consider a capacitive device to be an "upgrade." Capacitive just doesn't work for the edge's main purposes. |

Thanks for all the replies , Sarah - I should've been more specific, I was only talking about the tablet side. I don't want to use it for entertainment, I really want something to use for education which makes the EE perfect, except for the lack of support if something happens.
Edit: Ended up returning the Thrive today and ordered one of the Midnight Blue EE's, there are only 9 left now so if you're thinking of getting one don't wait too long. And if anyone's wondering who/where these are coming from - it's the Campus tech store at FAU ( http://techustore.com/ ). Last edited by krewskater; 08-08-2011 at 09:21 PM. |

Although personally, I never want to own a capacitive device, even as far as a basic tablet is concerned. I've always been very happy with resistive devices and being able to use any generic stylus to navigate/play games. The combination of my Fujitsu Lifebook 8.9" tablet PC and acrylic nails brings back happy memories . . . ![]() Congrats on the new EE! If you'll be making school notes etc. on it, I would think you'd love the experienced of the larger edge compared to the PE. |

Still, nothing in Capacitive is out there right now. Microsoft fell asleep at the wheel as touch programs are terrible under windows but inking with Wacom is great. Last edited by Synergi; 08-09-2011 at 01:45 PM. |

My Ebay EE came today, but I wasn't home.
![]() Missed him by 10 minutes after I was home all freaking day. Hopefully some of you guys that order will have better luck. On the bright side, I wasn't expecting it until at least thursday. Last edited by Synergi; 08-09-2011 at 05:52 PM. |

![]() Hate it more that we live in a small city where of course they assume everyone drives, and sometimes the delivery trucks don't even STOP at the house if they don't see a car in the driveway. We don't own a car. We've missed more packages than you'd think that way, when we were home! At least you know it's coming tomorrow! ![]() |

So if you just want to hear what I think of the EE in General over my PE, I can give you my thoughts. The PE was a great way to let me see what the full size EE could do. For reading and horsing around I like the size of the PE but I didn't like its size when I used it for notes, studying, saving webpages I could make notes on etc.. Also the PE (Atleast mine does) has major lag on the eink side when writing, I also couldn't right out in the margins.. I haven't had any of these issues on the EE. Surfing has been easier, but the main thing is the size of the eink display and the LCD for annotating PDF's (on LCD side) and Epubs on the eink side. The biggest trade off is size. I only use the EE when I'm up, I don't take it to bed to work, but I did the PE. I would keep the PE for the size but when I copied files I had annotated from the PE to the EE, the EE kept whatever the PE's screen resolution was or the file. So suddenly my text was much bigger. In the end, I can't justify keeping it if I'm not going to swap files between them and because of the resolution issue I found on the eink side, I won't. The EE just has a much nicer work space. I don't feel cramped when I work on it. Hope that helps! Last edited by Synergi; 08-09-2011 at 07:22 PM. |
