Thanks, I will try to set up a development environment in a Linux Virtual Machine and see how it works.

@Pablo, I recommend QtCreator as an IDE. Make sure you have the Qt development packages installed. That, cmake and a compiler should be the only external dependencies you should need to install.

Thanks, John. For what I see, seting up the development environment is not a trivial task.

Try building calibre from source...

After 0.4 is released, if there is interest I can see about putting together a pre built Sigil VM image for people to get started with.

My opinion concerning ebooks is that they should be distributed for free on the principle of the freedom of information and that anyone who wishes to do so can and should contribute monetarily to those who have "created" said information...

I believe things would be better if all information was available to anyone at all times, but I do not think we can get there until we all understand the consequences of catering to the antiquated business model that is business itself.

not every book is info - some are just quality entertainment and thereby a good of luxury.
If you want this level of entertainment - pay. if you don't want to you are free to entertain yourself the dogs way.

I hope this never ever comes to pass. I cannot stand an internal ToC in ePub.

It comes in handy because many, many, many devices ignore everything except first level TOC items.

I just drag them to the end of the book where I can ignore them.

Actually, John plans to implement a hyperlink editor. That will make the creation of inline ToCs a lot easier so there's no need for a specialised function . (It'll also make footnotes a lot easier to code instead of the slog that they are now.)
