				Converted the wife!!

Okay, so this is kind of a funny story, but my wife came around to the eBook ways: Last year she was reading alot of Kelley Armstrong books...so I decided to surprise her with a Nook for her birthday with the latest Armstrong books on it. She didn't like it, she wanted to hold a book etc....I get it, I was the same way. So I returned it. Fast forward to May of this year. We are on our way back from vacation, my wife finishes her book, and wants to read the next in the series. Since I'm driving I gave her the Nook Color with Waking the Witch on it, as well as eBook only short story releases that she has never read from her. So she finishes the eBook stories, and begins the novel. We get back home, and get back into our routine and as I'm going to bed with my Nook Color to read (I work 3rd shift), she says "let me have your reader thingy" I want to read my book. Now mind you....SHE HAS THE PAPER VERSION!! She goes to the doctors....takes my reader even though she has the paper version LOL. So about a week ago I hear her talking to her sister about the new Kelley Armstrong that just came out, and she says I can't read it because my husband won't give me his reader. I brought up the fact that she said...."I want to hold a paper book." And her response...."I lied" LOL. I finally found a Nook Classic on Craigslist (thing looked brand new) for $40, and bought it for her. Anyway, sorry for the long winded story...but she's now a convert! LOL. |

This thread title brings up the question: is it legal to format-shift loved ones? Is it ethical?

What a great story! I'm also one of those people who thought she'd never prefer an e-reader. Boy, was I wrong. |

 Spoiler:
Sorry. That's the first thing that popped into my head. I'm still trying to get my lovely woman lady wife to convert. But, she struggles to work a regular computer, and is completely put-off by a lot of other electrical doo-dads. It took her several months to figure out how to use her smartphone (and is learning new things about it almost daily). Getting her to try to read on either the NC or the Kindle...yeah. It's almost an exercise in futility. | |

I converted my wife. I gave her my PRS-600 when I got my -650. I got some books I know she liked and loaded them on. And now she wants to know when the new Sony Readers will be out, so she can have my 650. The best way to convert someone, is to put one thier hands for a bit. they will kick and scream, but then you will not be able to pry it from their fingers. I deal with the book collection. I maintain our collection in Calibre and load the books she is interested in, onto her reader. |

I guess one is never too old nor too young to be "converted". I am now offering either e-readers or vouchers for e-books to my loved ones (after showing them how practical e-reading is), and they are very happy. So far, I have converted my parents (both over 60), my son (10), and two friends (50 and 35). My sweetheart of 20 odd years does not want to be approached with an e-reader as a birthday or Xmas present. He is still hoping for a red Ferrari.... |

I feel certain that most ereaders are a lot easier to use than any of those smart phones. I agree with Pinecone! Once someone has experienced a top of the line reader like Kindle or Nook touch, they will see the light!
