Glad I grabbed these when I did then. I'm really looking forward to having another lengthy series to start.

From some of the postings about how the prices have been changed etc. I'm glad I didn't wait to pre-order as well. Not so happy a result for the author, but how is a customer supposed to know that Amazon goofed up when they see a deal?

If you happened to jump on this deal and pick up all the books that were free you saved $60.91. This is based on all the books now priced at $6.99 and one priced at $4.99.

I don't know if this was an error on Amazon's part or not, but glad I picked them up!

IF this was an error (and it may have been an intentional gimmick) then since it was not intentional theft or piracy, I think the author will be fine.
Firstly, I would not be surprised if Amazon paid him his cut anyway (don't they do that when THEY lower prices?) but secondly, if not, in an accidental situation like this, this is the time I'd encourage the author to consider how many new fans he may have attracted.

The author isn't hurting in this series (or it would not be 12 deep at a standard publisher). With a long backlist finally hitting, it may have been a part of their strategic plan to boost it in the listings by increasing pre-order sales by a certain percentage (even now, the prices are well below the $17.99 list price I saw stuffed into one of them, when grabbing them free).

The boost in ratings will no doubt more than make up for giving away promotional copies just to the Kindlers that keep up with such things.

Since these are priced by the publisher, there is likely a chance the author won't get paid for those promotional copies (as they would have, under the old model, which the non-agency companies still use).

UPDATE/FYI: hi

I pre-ordered this series when it was free but, they stopped showing up as "pending". I called Amazon & they said all but 2 of my pre-orders were removed because most are not available in Kindle format & they're not free. I was told that a mass e-mail should've been sent out to disappointed customers/fans. I was trying to get the word out for people to check their acct.'s but, some people responded, "well, mine's still pending". I sincerely hope Amazon doesn't make another mistake & charge all those "pending" books as Audio books!! I admit I was perturbed that Amazon just removed my pre-orders but, maybe it's a blessing in disguise! - donia

I got the email, too, and when I checked my pre-orders they were all still there - so unless things change drastically I'll just expect to see them when I see them.

Mine are all still there. Remember that the Pending page can only show about 15 entries - if you have more than that (and I do), you have to go to the "View all Orders" link at the bottom of the list. Six of mine are showing an Aug 2 date and 4 are further down the list, somewhere, but all ten still show if I search for all open orders.

I have the same thing. Email and my books are still there in pending. It's a bit disappointing that they have had several months to get it ready and yet they are still not ready. I was looking forward to tomorrow.

I was just about to post how sad I was that I was too sick to be lurking around here at MobileRead and missing those deals [some are showing as 404 and some just say not available on the right hand side where you'd click to order] but now I see maybe it's not such a loss if they're delaying everything. But if they are promising to still honor the free price . . . dang. Stupid sickness.
