![]() ![]() As for what else there is to do on GR, there are groups to join and you can take part in discussion threads, but I don't think they get much activity (at least not the ones I joined in on, anyway). I think MobileRead is much more useful educationally as both an author and as a reader (and ereader owner). I guess if anyone wanted, we could post our GR pages to see what we've reviewed? One of my favorite GR authors is Thea Harrison and she is really working Goodreads well. She has her bio (with a pic), a link to her website, list of all her books, she keeps a GoodReads Blog and she does giveaways. One of the smartest things she's done is do a giveaway of her first book through Goodreads. Now she's doing a second giveaway on her own using Goodreads Blog. She's given each person 7 ways to enter (tweeting, following on FB, etc) and requested (requires) each person to give an email address. Not too shabby, I think. ![]() She also does regular GR member stuff and accepts friendships - her marketing of her book has been pretty great and mostly mouth to mouth. I can't wait for next book to come out! I'm buying two (one for mom ![]() |

Do you know how she gives her books away using GR? Thanks in advance.

Love GoodReads. Great way to keep track of my reading, get widgets for my blog, check out reviews and hang out.

I use Goodreads to discuss books, books, and more books. The groups there are good, especially since most of broken down by genres or authors. The activity level will depend on the group. Some are very light, but the more popular ones are very busy. Too busy at times.
I tend to use MobileRead for discussions on devices and the programs on them. This forum has a better grasp on this than other forums that I frequent. |

I LOVE discussing books, but here the focus tend to skew highly towards sci-fi and fantasy (not that there's anything wrong with that ...), which are genres that do nothing for me. Library Thing has a couple of forums where I enjoy interacting as well.
I trust Goodreads reviews - which are actually linked-to at the Sony bookstore - more than Amazon. |

I love GoodReads as well. I use it to organize my To-Read lists and archive reviews of books read. I'm also active in one of the forums.
As for trusting the reviews, I still prefer Amazon. With Amazon there's instant comparison between good and bad reviews of the same book, and I find them better thought out because reviewers keep in mind that their post could persuade/dissuade a reader from buying a book. With Goodreads, it's a lot harder to sift through and find the 'smart' reviews. |

I love goodreads now, used to be more active on shelfari but switched to goodreads and have been more active there lately. I keep my TBR list there, and do seriously need to work on my read list, I have only marked 300 or so books (it does take time to update the lists, that is the only complaint I have on GR), and have not yet started to enter the french litterature I have read until now (which were the first books I read, came later to english).
For those interested, there is an excellent plugin for calibre by kiwi that helps sync calibre with GR, it is not workless but still much easier than doing everything "a la mano". I am at GR under my MR name too, that makes contacts and follow-up easier. |

I too use GoodReads. I did try LibraryThing and I hated it. The staff there don't care. I found some errors that prevented me from putting in the correct book and I sent off a message, waited a week, sent off yet another and after another week, nothing so screw them.

I've tried Shelfari but it didn't do it for me. Goodreads seems to have more options and features. The only thing I liked about Shelfari was the ability to auto-update based on my Amazon purchases.
