I like coffee in my coffee, but I like steamed, frothed milk and a little sugar in my espresso. Or is that a little espresso and sugar in my steamed, frothed milk.

Hmmmm, that's odd. One of the symptoms of canine withdrawal is headaches. And I can attest to this, as on the couple of occasion that I cold turkeyed from all caffeine, the first few days were massive headachs.

Caffeine is thought to be a cause of headaches in some people and also migraines. On the other hand, caffeine is a common ingredient in pain-killers you take to help with a headache. And, yes, caffeine withdrawal will also cause headaches, especially if you quit your daily coffee habit cold-turkey.

Yes I have given up caffeine twice and both times I had nasty headaches for a few days afterward.

I had a very bad coffee habit years ago and got to the stage where it was making me black out. A doctor made me go cold turkey. Not nice but better than killing myself. But three months later I was working in a customer's office where free, good-quality coffee was available all day long and I thought I'd try a small cup to see how I felt. Within half an hour I had developed a splitting headache and severe stomach pains. I've never gone back to drinking anything other than decaff coffee.

I keep half-decaf at home, and usually drink decaf out.

I tried a green tea latte once ... it was ... different. I'm a fan of green tea ice cream.
My local Safeway just had the Stash black and green blend too. I'll have to try Albertsons next because their tea selection is different. They used to have this awesome Twinings camomile and apple tea that I couldn't find anywhere else. I went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant on Sunday and had green tea ice cream for dessert. Yummy!

One thing that really bugs me is when manufacturers call any sort of herbal infusion "tea". "Tea" is something that grows on a tea plant; if it's camomile or some sort of other herb, I'm sure it's very nice to drink, but it's not tea!

There's a perfectly good word for a herbal infusion: "tisane" (as any Agatha Christie fan will know - Hercule Poirot is very fond of his tisane ).

Interestingly, when I was young tisane was the commonly used word in the francophone world. Now it seems to be displaced by infusion.

Surely one should announce the time, in this particular example, as "five and twenty to six"

...I'll get me coat...

We all have our particular bugbears! It's common to say herbal tea here. I can only think of one manufacturer that uses herbal infusion on its packaging. Maybe they think it would be too confusing to the average consumer. You might see infusion in a specialty tea shop. I suspect that many people here might not even understand the difference between white, green and black tea. Snapple had a funny commercial a few years ago to explain what white tea is.

I don't mind "tea" being used generally for any steeped plant matter, seeing as I'll want to know more specifically what I'm drinking regardless (Jasmine green? Darjeeling black? Lapsang souchong? Rooibos and cinnamon?), and it's just a lovely, short word

I would say "ten-minutes to six" but for "fifty-minutes to six, I would "five ten" i.e. whatever is easy to understand.

So why is this thread not in the lounge? Twenty one pages of most interesting discussion, none of which has a thing to do with "General discussions about e-book reading not specific to a device, software or format."

Hmmmm??
