Why are the kindle screensavers so freaking ugly? - Page 3

I have a Kindle 1 with a skin I purchased from Decal Girl. It also came with a custom screensaver that went along with the skin and continued the skin design onto the screensaver. Amazon allowed this with the K1 but for some reason when the K2 was released custom screensavers were no longer allowed.

I really like my screensaver but I wish Amazon would allow us to change them for images I want instead of the default images that came with the Kindle.

I am mildly irritated by them. The choice of authors is by necessity arbitrary. It's not nice constantly having to see images of writers you don't in the least admire.

At the least, it gives you incentive to wake it up and read someone you DO give a hoot about.

With my cover I can now turn on my Kindle before opening the case and I never have to look at those creepy authors again. Virginia's eyes are just deathly.

I got my kindle 3 replaced due to a defect and I'm stuck with fw 3.2.1 for which there's no JB. Egads. I'm guessing half of people who JB just want to not have to look at the random horrid screensavers.

Or they could just let us put in own screensavers. Good grief, even apple lets you do that.

Perhaps to get more sales of the ones with ads, which at least are mostly decent to look at.

I'm with you on that one...

I bought a regular Kindle and hated the screensavers.... so I returned it.

Now I have a Kindle 3G with Special Offers and the screensavers are
much better-looking.

Unfortunately the SO version isn't available everywhere.

How does that SO version work? Do you only see the ads when the device is turned off, or are they on the home screen? Do they ever appear at the bottom of the screen when reading? What types of ads appear? Could anyone perhaps upload a few screenshots?

The ads are not there when reading books.

i think this issue comes down to giving the consumer everything they want vs. everything they need. the features are there. amazon decided the screensavers.

The screensavers remind me of the big old paintings I'd see on the walls at Barnes and Noble. They're certainly relevant but I prefer the scenic stuff or random pretty things like the one picture of birds.

This is my first post and for that, I chose to wine about how come it is not possible to change the wallpapers!? That's dumb. It's been too long and still we've got no an alternative to jailbreaking it and I'm not gonna mess with it boys. :/
