One of the Kobo developers actually mentioned on the GetSatisfaction help forum that they are working on adding a search function. I have seen a Kobo person mention this previously as well, but I can't remember where that was. Sounds like it is coming.

One that's been irritating me lately: Allow even smaller paragraphs to split over multiple pages in Kobo epubs, rather than starting a new page. It leaves far too much whitespace and causes extraneous page turns. (especially when you have paragraphs that are just slightly too large for the page, the only case where they naturally split, and you end up with only a line or two on the next page)

And, on the publishing side, it'd be nice to not have books broken up into one chapter per file (since it slows things down a LOT at chapter transition). :/

Obviously I didn't do it thoroughly enough, because this searching problem must have come up somewhere before.
Hey there,
We're working on adding search functionality.

What were your concerns re: dictionaries? We'd be interested in hearing your ideas / suggestions.

Thanks,
Sameer.

Maybe he's not aware that you can enter a word in the dictionary for look-up? Or perhaps he wants his own version of dictionary?

I like the split. It shows on the progress bar when you bring up the menu. Its the only way I know how to tell how long it is until the chapter ends (when I normally stop for a break).

But perhaps the transition could be sped up a little? I don't know, never noticed a problem myself.

Another idea for the dictionary, perhaps there could be a log of all looked up word definitions so that you could easily go back to check on a word meaning thats been looked up in the past.

A German localized edition of the Kobo ereader would, logically, have a German dictionary.
Interestingly, whenever reading German literature, I never feel the need to lookup anything! While this might, in part, be caused by the fact that I am German, I can't help thinking that there's another thing to it. To this end I'll just quote myself:

It's perfectly safe to assume that MOST European users of a localized Kobo will be reading in their own language. This is, however, not true for, potentially, millions of customers. In Europe, practically every bookstore has an English literature section.

I'm not implying it would be necessary to implement a plethora of dictionaries like Sony, but it would be terrific to be able to revert to a nice comprehensive English dictionary. Perhaps by way of a selective firmware update.

You can get a surprise. The most common complain in Spain about Sony is that you can't install a dictionary in your own language

I just thought of another thing.
Under no circumstances would I appreciate needing to interrupt reading a good book just because I forgot to keep track of the charge status of my device. So, what I do is plug in the cord an keep reading, right?

But here's my point: Whether I'm lying, sitting or prone I ALWAYS rest the lower edge of my ereader on something. Unfortunately that’s where the charging port is. Those micro USB plugs are pretty flimsy, so to avoid breaking it, I would be holding the device in the air in front of my face. Not so great.

Easy enough to fix, if you could rotate the display.

Interesting, can you do without? Or have Spanish authors become similarly synonymically berserk?

Sorry, I don't totally understand. But if you mean if I can or cannot read without a dictionary, I must confess that I've never understood this complain either I don't need it usually, only in some special cases, but it looks like people use it (and no, authors have not become very complicated).

Kobo devs: please relocate the USB port in the next firmware update. =]

Also, is it just me or is the port upside down?

The port is the right side up, the device is upside down.

Oh my god, you idiots! You've put the bloody screen on the back! I'll never be able to see it back there.

I do like the quilted front, mind you... very comfy if I doze off mid chapter.

If it is, the only people doing it right are Amazon. Every other device I've had with this USB connector installed it like Kobo.

I do like the idea of the screen installed on the back, though. Makes it easier to read to my kids.
