I read about people protesting DRM on ebooks and never thought too much about it, until I've run across a book I would really like to read and can't. The book is Lendable for Kindle, and I've had 2 people try to loan it to me, but I get this message:
Patricia ******, this title is not available for you.

Due to copyright restrictions, the Kindle loan you've been offered is not available in your country: United States.

Did you recently move to a new country?

You can easily update your country for your Amazon account.
The book is Little Girl Blue: The Karen Carpenter Story. Amazon shows the ebook for sale but it costs $13.77! I don't know what would happen if I click on the 1-Click button, don't know if it would again tell me it's not available for me. I'm scared to try that because I don't want to pay that much for it.

Now I understand people's frustration when they encounter this type of situation. Grrrr....

It's kind of weird but it looks like there are 2 different ASIN numbers for it. One says "Not available in the US" and then the other is the $13.17. My guess is that first was put out by the publisher and is the one people are trying to lend you. Then they made some corrections or whatever and put out a new book under a different ASIN number and discontinued the first and that's why it can't be loaned now.

Regardless, I see it for $9.99 at Barnes and Noble so I reported the lower price for you.

not picky, really! but using calibre's 'get books' it couldn't find anything when i directly copied/pasted your text to the search window. so i thought i'd tell you that the title was incorrect.

Here's the outcome - I called CS, figured what can it hurt? Talked first to the lady who answered the phone, then she transferred me to a "specialist". He couldn't identify the problem, couldn't figure out why I was getting that message, so he gave me a $14 credit on my account and I bought the book with it. Love Kindle CS!

I also mentioned to him that B&N has this ebook for $9.99 and that I, along with a few other people I knew of, had reported it. He thought that was unusual that they had the ebook for $9.99 because those prices are set by the publisher.

Anyway...thanks again for your help here. Wanted to come back and report, because I always hate it when I help somebody and they never come back to say how it turned out
