Just finished "A Dance With Dragons." I was rushing to get to the end and dreading the end all at the same time, so that pretty much defines it as a good read for me. I'll give it a day or so to clear out of my head, then return to "A Children's Book" which I abandoned when this one came out. Or maybe I'll read something quick and light to clear my palate first.

I finished The Curse of the Wendigo (#2 The Monstrumologist) by Rick Yancey. Although I really liked it I wouldn't classify this book as Young Adult. I would have loved the book as a 16 year-old, but I was just a weird teen. I think it's too graphic for the average teenager.

Now, whilst waiting for the latest Agent Pendergast book I'm reading Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts.

I'm anxious for this one also. Hopefully, it will be better than Gideon's Sword. We will learn more about his wife. I have difficulty imagining him married.

Interesting I didn't know he wrote it for his daughter but it makes sence. It's probably a very good story. I just felt that I wasn't in the right age segment, and got angry with myself for not doing better research before buying.

I wonder if I will remember the plotting and all the intricacies by the time he's out with the sequel. I will surely have forgotten all the names

I've actually read quite a few of these, close to half. I haven't posted for a while life just gets away from you sometimes so I have abit to post.
MHI &MHV by Larry Correia
Sharp Objects & Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Enclave by Ann Aguirre
Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr
Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Mayberry
Reading All Dark,No Stars right now, I'm on the second story.

Will not read Song of Ice & Fire till series is done. I always forget to much if I have to wait between books. (5 year gap ridiculous)

I didn't like Gideon's Sword either. Or better said, the story itself was okay but I didn't like Gideon as a character.

I just found out that Cold Vengeance is sold only on Amazon (can't find it on any other store) and it's geographically restricted. Hopefully my local store will have it on sale tomorrow!

I just finished it, too. A great read. I'm back to reading "The Name of the Wind", hopefully I will finish it tonight or tomorrow.

Next on my list is "The Lake" by Banana Yoshimoto.

Just finishing MHV, a light romp, then I'm debating whether to read the last Spenser novel "Sixkill" which I have been saving, as I hate to think there will be no more, "Hounded: The Iron Druid Chronicles", or "Name of the Wind".

As you can see, I'm not looking to challenge myself too much, as I get enough of that in real life....

Finished reading Reginald Hill - "The Woodcutter" - a stand alone thriller [not a Dalziel & Pascoe] - heavily over plotted thriller - very well written, as are all of Hill's works [I think he has read the OED - I use the dictionary a lot with his stuff] - but a very intricate plot with an abrupt, not too believable denouement to the action.

Gideon was just too unrealistic.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the official release date so more availability may open up then. I see Amazon, B&N and BoB have it listed tonight. Although, I don't know what is available in Europe.

I placed a "Hold" at my public library where they have it listed as "on order." This is for the hardcover.

I should unsubscribe to this thread. It costs me too much money with all the fine recommendations folks here make.

On the other hand, you can learn a lot reading this thread. Like that word I just learned from reading Pooh's post.

Thanks for the vocabulary boost, PB!

I don't know how the list was constructed but I have read very few of these top 100 books (I find it strange that not a single one of Elisabeth Moons books is included), but I will bookmark it for future reference and reading tips.
Only read 26 of these. 26.5 if you count that I never finished Strange & Norrell.

I loved the 1634 books and have to say the thought of rescuing the dodos really caught my attention. There are good-sized previews of all the episodes available at the Gazette site here. I think I'm going to have to buy them just for this story.

I just finished "The Black God's War" by Moses Siregar III and I really liked it -- it brought me to another place and really engaged me. It's epic fantasy and it totally draws you in. My review (and giveaway) is here.

Now I'm reading K. C. May's sequel to "The Kinshield Legacy" -- it's called "The Wayfarer King."
