Don't let's start getting philosophical now, it will muddy the existentialist waters.

Anyway, are we really here....

The premise in Matrix was that it's all a simulation run by aliens, or something like that, if I remember correctly - it's been a few years. I don't figure why perpetrators (aliens or whoever) would bother using humans as wetware. Seems like a lot of work when you could just run simulations directly on the fabric of space/time with some sort of interface to quantum activity.

Well if we aren't really here then I didn't just respond to your post which wasn't actually posted in the 1st place and I'm a non-existent person replying to another non-existent person on a website that doesn't exist on an internet that also doesn't exist. Hmmm. Talk about a deep philosophical problem.

Bottom line for me is that whether I'm real or an entity in a simulation, I still have to buy food and pay the bills. And deal with my addictions.

din, I missed that earlier (yesterday? day before?).

For me, averaged out to account for MR-binges, my web usage for MR Forums is maybe 40% of total, and then there's another 40% somehow related to books - when I'm not reading them.

Not counting nicotine, caffeine, recovering-alcoholic - how many related addictions do I now have?

1. Reading books.
2. Building and managing my eLibrary.
3. MR Forums.

They fit together like jigsaw puzzle pieces, support each other, and contribute to a larger gestalt than the summed pieces. In fearful symmetry, burning bright….

I don't want to recover. Hooked for life.

I have pretty much accepted my MR addiction. Why fight what cannot be defeated?

You know why it is so addictive in here?

Because there's plenty of highly opnionated, intelectual minds sharing a single passion for reading. I also believe the fact that so many of us are somewhat tech savvy with an understanding of these new media makes the discussions all the more worthwhile and varied than what you would find in, say, some literary forum of vampire bozos.

There are literary forums for vampire bozos? Wow. Learn something new everyday. EDIT: errhh, here, every 5 minutes.

Yeah, the tech qualifier seems apt. There are several basic entry/screening requirements. (1) Have and use computer, 2) Want or have mobile reader device, (3) Enjoy using tech. Those in combination with reading addiction (and some intelligence) are powerful.
