[GUI Plugin] Kindle Collections (old)

Is it possible to include a book in multiple collections? There are a few books that I would like to be in both a series collection and in my NEXT collection, which I use as a reading list, for example.

I suppose that I should have asked how--do I put a comma between collection names in the custom column I created in Calibre, or do I have to add the books to the second collection on the device itself?

When you customize the kindle plugin with the column, it will update the column with the names of all the collections which the book belongs to, including adding the comma if the book belongs to more than one collection. Here is an example of what mine says for a book that belongs to two collections:

I'm using Calibre and a Kindle on my Windows 7 laptop. I downloaded the plugin and followed the install steps. Unfortunatly, I got a message that said

ERROR: Unhandled Exception

InvalidPlugin: No valid plugin found


I didn't unzip the plugin, and I even downloaded it again to see if I did something wrong.

Any ideas?

Books titles coming is as separate collections.

I have an odd situation with a friend who is using the same version of Calibre as I am and the same version of Kindle Collections but when I transfer my books and run the Kindle Collections I get my authors listed properly and with the individual books listed inside the Authors name but when she does the same thing, each book is listed as a separate collection.

I have reinstalled Calibre, downloaded the current version of the Kindle Collections and installed both and rechecked that we have identical settings. We are both using Windows 7.

I have had her laptop sitting beside mine to compare so I am sure we are using the same settings. Please, can anyone help?

I actually have the same problem after installing the newest Calibre update, today. But only with one book in particular.

Assuming you're doing it right it should work, but there is no need to download the plugin anymore. Go to Preferences - Plugins - Get new plugins, highlight the Kindle Collections plugin and click install.

Read the Intro to plugins "How do I install a plugin using Plugin Updater?" section for current directions. If after reading and following the directions in this sticky post the plugin doesn't work come on back and we can move forward.

Here is the log of the Kindle collections from her laptop. As you can see either Calibre of Kindle collections is seeing one book per author eg Waugh, Evelyn

We would both be VERY grateful for any assistance. I have uninstalled Calibre and run CC Cleaner and then reinstalled it. Removed and reinstalled the plugin. Every setting seems identical

I set it up only to use custom columns to avoid accidentally erasing tags. I could change it, but at the moment I really want to avoid causing problems for new users. At least with a custom column I know the user had to set it up so will be a bit more aware of what will change.

If you want to use Tags for the collection names, you can just select Tags in Customization. If you are 'moving around books on your Kindle' then I can see this is an issue, but the plugin wasn't really designed for that - it was meant that you would modify your tags in Calibre.

You can switch to using your custom column instead of Tags, and just hide the Tags column. Note that Tags can sometimes get updated when downloading metadata, so you can end up with a lot of unexpected collections.

[oh, other misc thoughts as I tried this plugin for the first time
- Why doesn't it add the icon to my toolbar when I first installed it? If someone doesn't like the default location, then they can customize the toolbar after.

This is Calibre - its setup to prompt you to choose where to put the icon when the plugin is first installed. Many people don't put icons on their toolbar, and you can always add it after.

- Why does it give me an error that there is no custom column? Just add one for me, and if I don't like it I can customize it (actually I'd prefer it use tags, and possibly to have the 'add custom column' as the last option in the drop down list of pick column to import it into)

What type of custom column should be added? (Once set I don't think you can change the type). What name should be used? I wanted to avoid modifying calibre's setup too much, and if you are going to customize the default then setting one up isn't much more effort.

- More of a Calibre thing... but it would be nice if Calibre offered to restart itself after adding a column.]
