I think anyone who is a pet owner has carried on one-sided conversations with their pet; it's amusing, in this book, to be able to hear what the full conversation would sound like.
Up to the point that I got to, his relationship with Oberon did not feel all that endearing to me. I don't think there was enough depth to the relationship for me to make me like the dog or the main character.

Yeah, I didn't find the book all that funny.

Just finished and I LOVED it! I'm glad to hear that the publisher will pick up three more books.

I so loved Oberon! How many french poodles does one dog need?

i loved the pop culture references to star trek / star wars . the conversations were funny and i would never be able to keep a straight face talking to someone telepathically that is as sarcastic and funny as oberon, while trying to carry on a real conversation at the same time.

kevin hearne is an avid twitter user, he's usually posting stuff about his next book tricked and tossing out freebies with contests (usually available to u.s. residents only ) but it is neat to know three more books will be coming.

just wonder how much time will have passed, will granuille (sp - don't have the book handy to look her up) be farther along in her druidry or will we pick up right after book 3?
i guess i could ask him on twitter. the first three books didn't have a lot of time between them and with her 12 years of studies i sure hope we get some double druid action.

If you're talking about Flidias, they had sex before they went out on the hunt, IIRC, way before he realized that she was acting at the behest of another. How is he supposed to turn down a request for anything, from one of the gods of his pantheon? He seemed to hold true to his own moral code in his actions.

But, be that as it may, if you didn't like it for whatever reason then you didn't like it. Too bad.

I did like the fact that the first three books followed one another closely on the timeline.

It will be interesting to see how he sets up the fourth book, since he's starting with a relatively clean slate - on the surface.

Since Granuaille (sp?) seems to be a very quick learner and Atticus always seems to attract trouble, I'm guessing that she's going to advance more quickly in her quest to become a Druid - if she manages not to meet the fate of her predecessor.

Even though I've read the books, I've been saving the audiobook versions of #2 and #3 for my vacation. It's been really hard resisting listening to them.

Very true. If he refused, she probably would have killed him or something. And if you have to do it, might as well enjoy it.

Yeah. From your original recommendation, I really thought I'd like it. I might try it again some other time. Maybe I'll enjoy it more then.

I know that sometimes I'm just not in the right mood or perhaps mindset for certain books, and it's best to put them aside until that genre or storyline once again piques my interest. Can take a month, can take several years.

I remember I went to the movies once with my mom to see the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy". I was appalled by it because I saw it as denigrating the tribesmen, while my mother sitting next to me was splitting her sides laughing. Two people with relatively similar attitudes, yet we interpreted the film completely differently - she saw it as it was meant to be presented, while I was applying an assumption to it that wasn't intended by its creators.

It can also be a matter of your expectations. For example, some of Lackey's books (e.g. Owl Knight) I hated the first time I read it. Reading it a second time, the problems I had with the book the first time were no longer a problem.

I just finished the first book of the series and really enjoyed it. A few things Atticus does irritated me, especially pranking the EMT, but overall it was a fun read, and definitely something to pass the long dry season with while I'm waiting for the next Dresden Files book.

I'm 3 of 3 on the waiting list for Hexed ... read faster!

I'm now listening to the audio version of "Hammered" and I have to say, I'm really enjoying the job the Luke Daniels has done narrating this series. He's really managed to individualize all of the characters. When he does the Polish witch, Malina, I totally forget that it is a man voicing a female character; the only other time that's happened to me is when I've listened to some of the male British narrators doing the dowagers in Georgette Heyer novels.
