History books by known authors seem to fall into the $12-$15 range. Lesser, or unknown author's history books seem to be mostly around $9.99 with the next majority priced at $7.99. Obviously not counting free or 99 cent ones.

This is using the Top 300 best sellers on amazon for United States History.

I'll see what happens once I get 3 or 4 volumes out. I'll have a better idea then I guess.

Frankly, I hesitate to start reading ANY author if I know it's going to cost me $60+ to read a series of books.

Since you're using other works of history as a pricing guide, for that same $60 or so I can buy at least 6 volumes of the highly-respected Oxford History of the United States series, each by noted historians and published by a prestigious University press, and each volume would be 700-800+ pages, not 300-400, so obviously those dollars would buy me more pleasurable reading time.

I do plan to buy the first volume and will then be able to decide if I want to buy future volumes, but I'd be much more inclined to buy the entire series if it didn't cost nearly $65 to do so.

Just a thought. I wish you well with your father's books.

Thanks.

Thanks again Steve!

I think a lot of people would eventually buy a particular volume that appeals to them since each seems to have a definite topic. Volume two covers the colonies, Volume Three covers the American Revolution, etc. They actually work as stand alone books. Obviously if people buy them all, that would be great but I actually expect most people to target specific ones once they are all out.

I have a 9th volume that is only 110 pages and covers the Depression and start of WWII. It's very sad for me seeing it end but I'll have to go through stuff at my mom's place to see if there is anything written that he never got around to transferring.

Nice little review.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. It was very detailed and I learned things about the first people in America that I never learned in school. Also the details of the Spanish explorers lives was very entertaining. It kept me engrossed throughout, I highly recommend it.

As other reviewers have indicated, the depth of the information presented is stunning. From prehistoric times through the Conquistadors, the author delves into the history behind the history that most teachers barely mention. Remarkably, he does it while still maintaining an interesting and entertaining style. Unfortunately, this volume ends just as North America begins to attract settlers, meaning I need to wait for future volumes to learn similar backstory facts about the colonies that became the United States.

I have my mom up visiting for Thanksgiving and she said she does have some written books still in the closet, so I'm hoping there might be even more volumes there. At least enough to finish the 9th one.
