I begged her to let me come and photograph her and her friends at the nightclub. I can't imagine anything more cool than a bunch of 85+ year old ladies howling and stuffing dollar bills into the dancer's G-strings, shouting 'Take it ALL off, baby!' ![]() So how much did you win? And who was your favorite dancer? ![]() Stitchawl |

![]() And my mom is 90 and our express purpose for the trip was to take her casino hopping there. Vegas is too far away to drive and I don't like to take her on a plane anymore, so Biloxi it is. Imperial Palace, Hard Rock, Beau Rivage -- you wouldn't know you're not in Vegas from the inside. We (my sister and I) would get her inside using a lightweight wheelchair to save her energy, and once inside she would get out and push it around from machine to machine. She had such a good time, and did so well the whole trip. I'm very glad we decided to do it. A few pics: View from our 20th floor window at Imperial Palace; Mom at coffeeshop in Beau Rivage; and inside Hard Rock (full size Wheel of Fortune on right! ![]() |

Taking a dinner break. I left my Finance homework til the last possible second last week (turned it in with half an hour to spare). Well, I paid for it with a mediocre grade, so determined I wasn't doing that this week. Assignments are due on Sundays, this is Thursday (and a day off work for me). I'm half done with the individual Finance assignment, and turned in my part of the group project ( at least I hope that's all the group leader wants...). The other class is Strategic Staffing and I'm not unduly worried about that one (though by my also mediocre grade in that class maybe I should be!)
I do okay with Finance as longas I can find the formulas (for those who didn't know, like me, Finance is all dealing with profit margins and break-even analyses, and degrees of different kinds of leverage -fun, right? No, I don't think so either). It's when she starts asking WHY this formula makes a difference to that number that my brain freezes up and says, "forget it". I can get the right numbers (most of the time) but analyzing them? No way. |

Today starts the Summer Darkness festival in our town which is the yearly Goth festival. I really like this weekend; looking at the elaborate clothing and the surprisingly mellow atmosphere. They're really nice people, they don't cause any problems, no drunkenness or noise when going from one venue to another or after a concert. I like this weekend better than the introduction days for new students.
Yesterday they were already setting up the Gothic market on the church square and tomorrow evening they're showing Nosferatu with live organ music in another church. Last year I had to elderly ladies in the store and they told me that they always come to Utrecht during the festival to look at all the beautiful clothing. |

I'm thinking about buying a new scratching pole, because Oni completely destroyed the one I had. It goes a little something like this:
I'm not sure yet about what I should buy. I want a big one because I have two cats now, but the big ones are really expensive and I know Oni will just ruin the new scratching pole too. So I'll have to buy yet another one when she's a little bigger. EDIT: video should be fixed now ![]() Last edited by Iridal; 07-29-2011 at 08:12 AM. |

And the other is a 6" diameter tree branch, about 8 feet long that leans against a corner of the room. I wrapped it in 1/2" hemp rope. Climbs this all the time too, but this is the only one she actually scratches and it just gets fuzzier and fuzzier as the years go by. She's had it for 7 years now, and it should be good for another 57 years at least! Cost... about $3 for rope, and 30 minutes of time. I painted a layer of latex glue onto the branch before wrapping the rope, so no matter what it will never come loose. Stitchawl |

Trying to recover from our visit to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas. I knew I didn't want to go but my daughter tried to convince me that there was a lot more stuff there about Kennedy than just his assassination. No, there wasn't. It's depressing and morbid and I don't understand how people can so happily dwell on it. People standing in the street getting their pictures taken over the X's in the street. And now, every f***ing building here looks to me like the school book depository with that one window half open. So my daughter's boyfriend then tells me that the MLK museum in Memphis is also very good. Please!

Packing my suitcase... There is just way too much stuff I have to bring this trip. And I just noticed that the wheels of my large case are broken. I really only wanted to bring one suitcase, but it's going to be heavy going if I have to carry it. I need to use hardshell cases to protect my camera gear and other electronics... I wish I could find those old 'strap-on' wheels that used to be sold before everybody started making wheeled cases.
