Kobo's sticking it to to Apple.

Well in response to Apples new policies Kobo will be following the steps of many other media giants* and is in the works of developing a new HTML5 app. The HTML5 site will have access to their online store. While this might work for online content like FT, I wonder how well this will work for eBooks. =X= *FT(see http://app.ft.com). |

Sticking it to Apple by developing another application that runs on Apple's devices? That's telling them |

The HTML5 app will also work for Android, Blackbery, WebOS, etc... and not be an Apple exclusive app. =X= | |

No, remember you don't need an informed mind to realise that everything is Apple's fault... see many other threads on MR for confirmation... Do have one small query... was this enforcement from Apple announced on 29th June 2011?? No Then why are we still waiting for the development of these wonderful HTML5 ways of doing things... if I had been advised that my current way of working was going to be blocked then I would have immediately started to work on an alternative approach rather than wait for the announced deadline whilst moaning and wringing my hands. That way I could continue doing things in a way I preferred rather than complaining I was being banned/forced out of business or having to pay 30% I didn't want to... Ah, sorry forgot,it's all Apple's fault... never mind Microsoft, it'll be your turn again soon... or Google... |

I find it mildly amusing that Mr. Jobs' tirade vilifying Flash and extolling the virtues of HTML 5 has become a two headed snake and has come back to bite him.

It's the latest version of HTML-- the instructions that dictate how a webpage looks. The latest version has more support for things like video, audio, and graphics. The new HTML standard will also allow the production of sites that don't need to use the Flash plug-in. The idea is that with HTML5, instead of making an "App" for the iPad, they make a web based "HTML5 App" instead. Apple can't dictate what is in an "HTML5 App".
