Different regions of Britain have a wide range of different local expressions for hills, largely stemming from various invaders in the past.

Eg, hills in the north of England are called "Fells" (from the Norse "fiall" - mountain; compare the modern Germans "Fels", meaning rock or stone). In the south of England they are "Downs" (from the Celtic "dun" - "sandy hill". It's the same origin as "dune", as in "sand dune").

Denture fixative usually.

But I find that some people are in denial and refuse to use either 'denture' or 'false teeth'. The preferred term for those people seems to be 'dental plate' or just 'plate'. Although once I saw a patient who insisted that the piece of plastic with one tooth on it was her 'tooth braces'.

Health care can be difficult when you are dealing with embarrassment and/or shyness - even dialect differences around the UK can lead to misunderstandings!

I think I now know 5 or 6 dialect words that all mean 'gag reflex'!
