Try this version, it includes checking the audible directory for 'books' though I don't know if it will allow these to be added to a collection. If it doesn't work I'll have to take a longer look at it, but it might be a while.

The latest version of kindle for pc has a new feature that allows it to import collections from your kindle. I tried this feature, but in the import there were a lot of collection names that I no longer use on my kindle. I thought maybe the latest version had not been updated by a restart so I deleted them in k4pc, restarted my kindle and then re-imported them again. And again the old kindle collections showed up, are the old names lingering in the json file??

EDIT: Nevermind, I created a new one as a test, I think Amazon must be having it import from some old collections on their server. Now to contact their CS to find out how to get rid of those old collections.

Your best bet is to investigate using metadata plugboards to accomplish this. For my Sony devices I use the plugboards described under the General Metadata spoiler.

I just got my first eReader and have only a mere 21 books but waht to keep my collection orginized from the start....so I googled and DL'd 'calibre' (which is awesome) and the DL'd the Kindle Collections add-on app....again AWESOME!

They are both great and are just what I need to keep my (growing) 'book' collection orginized. I do however have a question.

Is there a way to only list the books in my created collections and not both in the collection and individually on my kindle?

When I go to 'Home' on my kindle I get 4 pages of books and I only have 21 loaded on it and six collections. I thought that when I created the collection with this app it would reduce the number of pages and just show the collections on the main Home page and then the books with-in the collection when I select the collection.

Am I missing a setting or did I miss something in the set-up?

You need to change it to "Show by Collections."

Use the five way to go up on the Home page.

When you run Create Collections (or Preview Collections) does the the report show that you are creating the right collections?

I am using the menu to restart, and the create / preview do show the right collections are to be created. I also see a count of books that are in the collections. Despite this, after the restart, the books for which I set the column indicating which collection they go to, are not in those collections.

I seem to be totally plug-in illiterate.

Is there any simple guide, in words of one syllable or less, that would help me understand how to set up collections using the collections plug-in?

I managed to get a set of collections by author, limited to authors with more than a set number of books. But I would like to mark the books I have (eg "Westerns" or "Detective") and have collections with names to match.

The plug-in seems to provide very sophisticated solutions, and I'm looking for something very simple.

I'm using the most recent version of Calibre with the Kindle Collections plug-in. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I've followed each step (to the best of my knowledge). I've created the new column in Calibre. However, when I try to do anything other than select the customization option, I get a message saying there are no books on my Kindle. I've re-booted. I've tried removing all my books and adding them back. Nothing has worked. HELP!!

Does Calibre recognize the books as being on your kindle?

As an option, can the plugin update the Tags column instead of a custom column when importing from the Kindle? I am only using the Tags column to organize my books, and if I move books around on my kindle, it would be nice if the Tags were updated (instead of some custom column which is redundant).

[oh, other misc thoughts as I tried this plugin for the first time
- Why doesn't it add the icon to my toolbar when I first installed it? If someone doesn't like the default location, then they can customize the toolbar after.
- Why does it give me an error that there is no custom column? Just add one for me, and if I don't like it I can customize it (actually I'd prefer it use tags, and possibly to have the 'add custom column' as the last option in the drop down list of pick column to import it into)
- More of a Calibre thing... but it would be nice if Calibre offered to restart itself after adding a column.]

Thanks for the great plugin - I really simplifies things.

Yep, which is the aggravating part. I added them (again) to the Kindle using Calibre and they're showing they are on the device. Grrrrr!

I finally got it working (had a slight issue where it was showing in the top menubar on my mac, then disappeared when I plugged the Kindle in, I added it to every menu I could see in the preferences and bingo!). I set up my collections, told it to sync, restarted my kindle and there were the collections! They were empty but I noticed the spinning wheel (top right corner) and after a few minutes my collections were full!

I officially love you! Now I just have to get the Meta Plugboards working how I want and I'll be a super happy bunny
