support to bring us the "Bourne" movies. It would be nice if some more of the great stories that unfolded over a number of novels were to have a better chance, thanks to the success of HP. Of course this could also lead to something like the "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" getting made into a series of movies, and that would probably kill the whole idea. Luck; Ken |

constant Self-deprecation and guilt tripping. If they left that out or downplayed it, I would like it as well. Still there are plenty of better candidates. Luck; Ken |

i think a nice long animated series created by someone who loves the material would be better than a string of movies. movies are just so time limited its hard to properly translate larger /more involved texts- as ProfCrash was mentioning in his earlier post about what was left out/glossed over in the final HP flick
you need buy in from the suits though- you need to FINISH the stories and not get production shut down with story yet to tell. I think thats the most incredible part of the HP films- that they all got made. |

Of the eBooks?
Well, the current RRP in the UK on the Potter paperbacks ranges from £6.99 (the first three in the series) to £8.99 (the last four). The publisher, Bloomsbury, does sell them all online with a 25% discount, so they are actually less than that, and they obviously cost less still on Amazon. My guess is that the eBooks will cost around a third less than the RRP of the print books. I'd like it to be more, but I don't think it will be - given the example set by Agency pricing already, and the fact that these will sell even if there was no financial incentive to purchase them in a digital format. I do hope for a considerably better discount for buying all seven though. I've watched all the films, and eagerly await reading the books now. My girlfriend has a few of them in dead tree format, but I don't want to have to cart a hefty hardback (I'm looking at you, 'Order of the Pheonix') around with me. So. I think we're looking at (roughly) ~£4.69 for the smaller books, and around ~£5.99 for the larger. |

Personally, I wouldn't (I hope) pay any more than the prices I've listed. I think a third off the retail price of the print books is fair. (I think it should be nearer 40%-50%, but given that Agency pricing has led to lots of eBooks costing as much as their paperback equivalents, and taking into account unfair taxes, I think a third off is at least fairer.) |

If anyone is at all interested, The Leaky Cauldron's podcast, Pottercast, did a recent episode describing Pottermore. There is a long segment on the ebooks. Apparently they're not familiar with them and make some erroneous, funny, and even some insulting comments. John Noe commented that nobody has a Sony reader
![]() They also talked about how it was interesting that because of the Sony partnership that they didn't make the ebooks a Sony exclusive. Jo didn't want that. And even these guys with their limited knowledge of ebooks stated that perhaps while Sony readers have a smaller share of the market that the JKR Harry Potter Sony relationship may widen the interest for Sony readers. It just makes perfect sense and reiterates what many of us have been saying all along. ![]() Apparently, Melissa, who runs TLC & Pottercast was involved in Pottermore and she has lots of info on it, a lot of which she can't say right now. The episode is #241 for anyone who cares to listen. They say that the ebooks cut out all the resellers, no DRM (which we know) and that they will be watermarked, and they're somehow going to be able to be read on all devices but there were no specifics as to how or formats. No word on pricing either but, and I'm just guessing here, because there's no middle-man maybe they'll be a smidge cheaper. Jo wants people to be able to read it on all devices and all of their own devices for those who own multiples rather than have to buy one per device because of proprietary reasons. I for one can't wait!! ![]() |
