If I had a magic wand (that could only be used in an absurdly narrow way,) then I'd want the Kobo Touch team cranking out iRiver firmware updates. Still, since launch (just 3-4 days ago) there already seem to have been several updates. They've gone from 1.0 to 1.17 in under 1 week.

that's not the first I heard the font is a little on the light side. Too bad what a golden opprotunity with that screen resolution.

I think that Kobo had their hands forced by the Nook Touch - they needed to get the device out there and update later, or lose huge chunks of sales.

It's true. We live in a world where the rush to get to market trumps the pursuit of getting it right the first time. Of course, since it's so easy to update software these days, I'm not too bothered by it. Still - if they wanted to pay me, I wouldn't turn them down

True, the Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) is a Godsend, but I feel that manufacturers are abusing it by shipping half-baked products and just "we will fix those bugs on the next firmware update". It works are long as the product is not too far off what it should be, otherwise it puts people off. That does not apply only to the iRiver, seems to become rather common.
