No problem - actually, I've decided to return the Nook and get the K3. I love that Pearl screen, but the touch thing just isn't working for me

One thing I only recently discovered on the Nook is the Go To scroller has a back arrow icon. Like I said, buried options... I never thought to look there for a previous page link. |

Just to spice things up, I returned my STR and bought an iRiver Story HD from Target. They have a 90 day return policy, so I'm gonna give it a try. So far, it makes me wish for a major firmware update...

Then again, the Kobo folks have pushed out 3 updates in less time for the Touch.

You also get 'Back' button after clicking on a hyperlink (footnote etc.). But if you turn the page it assumes you are changing current reading position and the Back button goes away. I haven't found Nook's lack of a Kindle-like Back function very inconvenient, after using Nook for awhile now. On Kindle it is pretty much required, but Nook has other navigation options that more than make up for it IMO. They need to support multi-level TOC though, and I would prefer that bookmarks record the exact location (i.e. as determined by first item displayed on a screen of text) rather than the beginning of the 'logical' page. What I'd like to see in addition to Back is a reading history navigator that would function like browser history. This would make it much easier to jump back and forth between two or more locations in a book, or between books. |

The Kindle back button isn't just for previous page though. I like how it can go back through actions unrelated to just page turns, e.g. from a web page back to your book page. It's sort of like the Nook shortcut to swipe on the status bar which I really like. Sony has an options menu button that allows you to select continue reading from various apps to take you back to your book. They also have a History item on the Options menu. However you have to touch the screen and advance through page by page in many cases. They used to have History as a list of the last 100 pages viewed that you could select a specific item from, and I do miss that format. Often it's easier to find your place via the ToC and that's why I also lament the lack of multi-level ToC on the Nooks. I don't care if there is no dedicated back button if the menu navigation is simple and complete. In general I really like the user interfaces on the Nook and Sony readers. I think Amazon will have to build-up their menu structures for a similar type of interface if they go the touch-screen route.
