I find it usually takes about a week to really get the feel for any device and how it operates. In that time you get to really feel how the device operates and you've learned enough not to be frustrated.

It looks like you're holding your touch too low. For touch screen devices you usally want to hold the device where your thumb is below the middle of the screen, but above the bottom 3/4 of the screen. When you type you then have to move your thumbs to the bottom of the screen.

That said I came from a K2 background, and before that PRS-505. I now have a nookColor. One thing I will say about the Kindle vs nook is the Kindle tends to make the software reading experience better than the nook, but the nook hardware is usually better, excluding the first nook.

Every device is going to have strengths and weakness, for instance I really like the way the sony ergonomics, it's buttons press/long press use, the bookmarks, TOC, and Collections much more than the K2.

However the K2 dictionary, 3G, search/wiki/google, Text-To-Speech, annotations much more than the SONY so I stuck with the K2.

I really did not like the nookCOLOR software, however when I upgraded to Android 2.2(nookie) and then 2.3(CM7). The nook became a great choice. It's a 7" tablet where I can read MOBI, ePUB, and PDF using the best Android software on the market.

On your rooted nook with CM7 ow is the battery drain? HOw long it last?

Also, I read that for CM7, you can run from a sd card. If that the case do I have to root the nook in order to run CM7?

thanks

i would return it if the ergonomics are bothering you. i initially thought the str was cool, but the rubberizedness of the thing and the lines where the buttons are and the video game-esque power button and the nook branding have turned me off entirely.

i would just keep the k2 if i were you. you have 3g, a browser, and a back button for chrissakes.

I love how Kindle trolls hang out in the nook sub forum. Are you that insecure with that antiquated, 1980's looking calculator you call an ereader? And what are you talking about the nook STR has a back button. You know one for forward and one for back. There are two button on each side. Speaking of which isn't the Kindle 2 only have buttons on one side?

And speaking of video game-esque, you have to navigate your Kindle 2 with a stubby joystick and what worse this only came out two years ago

@boswd, the OP is not taking about a "Previous page" but a "back" page like a browser where the page history is tracked. So if you hit a link, footnote, search, you can go back to the last page.

No, the latest versions of CM7 have fixed the sleep issues. The devs purposely would keep the nook from sleeping so the WIFI would connect quickly when turned on. Now they've fixed the WIFI/sleep issue so the nook will go to sleep and save battery.

Honestly I don't know, I use my nook so much for reading, surfing, email, writing docs, and games that its hard for me to track actual battery life. It really depends on usage. I usually get 4hrs with heavy usage(WIFI/games) to a full day depending on what I use it for. WIFI and especially games really kill the battery.

That is correct you can run CM7 off SD card and not root your nook. It is very easy to do.

I would actually recommend that first, then when and if you are ready to take a dive you can install CM7 on the eMMC. The advantage, and my choice, of eMMC is that you get to use the 8GB on you device, it's easier to update, it is more stable and you can use the sd card for additional storage.
