I finished Deadlands by Lily Herne (review available here). It's a very good zombie novel set in South Africa and written by a mother and daughter duo. I don't normally care for YA novels, but this was a pleasant surprise. I liked the new take on zombies and of course the truly South African slang and setting!

I've read the back of the book... hmm, sounds interesting, maybe i ll give it a try after I'm done with the 4 novels from Sherlock Holmes!

Thanks for the tip. As a South African born boy myself, and a zombie fan, I'm interested in giving it a try. Do you know if it is available as an ebook? The link from the author page is to the pb version.

I've contacted the publisher to find out, so hopefully they'll get back to me. I've tried searching, but couldn't come up with any results myself. I think chances are good that it's not available as an ebook at this stage.

Will do. You can read a small excerpt though. Guess Penguin SA doesn't have much of an ebook strategy yet.

LOL Anh, I can see why you wouldn't appreciate Dresden since you're not into detective wizardry, but I do have to admit being puzzled at whoever called them "hard-boiled". And I love the humor, but that's just me. Besides, I live an hour out of Chicago, so there's a lot of "Hey, I know that place!" moments for me. I was reading the Naked City anthology last night, and the first story is a Dresden short, about the Billy Goat Curse (yes, there really IS such a thing) on the Chicago Cubs baseball team and Wrigley Field. I was laughing so hard Chris came in to see what was going on, and the dialogue was so good I was reading it out loud to the Siamese, who was perched on my shoulder anyway. I don't think he appreciated it, or maybe he just didn't like the fact that his perch was shaking because I was laughing so hard.

Speaking of zombies, I was writing an article on covers (that will hopefully be carried by a blog other than mine) and has anyone seen this???

OHMYGod. The article I'm working on is a bit of a "bad covers" thing--but this cover was so bad I know the blog would NOT want it on the front page. (And the idea is to make the article marketable, not distasteful to the point you can't look too long.)

I'm sure some of you have seen it. I understand TOR did a big 'What do you think?' and it was really ... well liked...

I know. Don't judge a book by the cover. Any takers????
