Did you guys get Rollins' Black Order during the freebies a month or so ago? It is a thriller without a plot. Better than a sleeping pill. It has been putting me to sleep for a week now, and I have not quite made it to halfway. It has been very disappointing. I was a fan, buying the books with Painter Crowe, Grayson Pierce, et al. But this one seems odd, as if it were "written in the style of James Rollins" in a way. And Nazis doing secret human experiments in the 21st century? That is soooooo last millenium. |

I've started reading "In Her Name: Empire" by Michael Hicks. I got it free and started out skeptical. Am moderately suprised that I still like it two chapters in.

I just finished WWW: Wonder, the third book of the WWW trilogy by Robert J. Sawyer and I've got to say that I haven't been so excited or stimulated by a work of science fiction since the first time I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey in Cinerama in 1968. The first book (WWW: Wake) was wonderful and full of heart, the second (WWW: Watch) was edge of the seat exciting, but the third one just completely blew me away. This series covers all the bases and gives you plenty of food for thought along the way. I can't recommend it highly enough.

finished recently but not posted : The Sisters Brothers - Patrick Dewitt Hounded, Hexed, Hammered - 3 books (Iron Druid Chronicles) Kevin Hearne The Heretic - Book 1 Templar Chronicles Trilogy - Joseph Nassise none of the them were 4/5 star books all 3 star fun reads. there's nothing bad to say about any of them i did love the iron druid books more than the others as they were fun reads and included current pop culture and current locations and mixed up the mythologies and gods from various religions. |

The Wizard's Dilemma by Diane Duane There's 20% off with code DDCOM. This is the fifth in her "Young Wizards" series. I think I might have read it before, and I've definitely read the first four before. But the first four are going to be revised to fit the timeline of the later books better (and to make the technology match better too), so I'm not going to re-read them until that's done. | |

Going back a way, finished Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. Not sci-fi as so much of this extended thread, but a good National Book Award winner from a few years ago.

Currently listening to Orpheus Rising:Love, Rockets & A Bloody Great Fish by Colin Bateman. Not as overtly funny as some of his previous stuff, and a tad more "romantic", but still better than average fayre. Quote:
