Did this series -- Miss Silver (Patricia Wentworth) -- just drop in price? They are showing up at $7.36 here in Canada at Amazon as Kindles such Grey Mask.

I am willing to try one or two at this price.

That sounds in line with the UK price. Perhaps they have a different publisher in the US who's charging more?

I think of these things in terms of entertainment value, Charlie. If a book keeps me amused for 3h, that's worth $7 to me. I've never been particular bothered by what books cost - they're a pretty cheap form of entertainment compared to most other things
Yes, but unfortunately I have to be fairly selective these days with my reading $$. If I can get it from the Library, I do. If I can't, I have to be rather frugal about it. And $10 is a lot for a short book.

Darn. One of those times I am tempted to change my location for the Kindle. And not available on Kobo, where I use my Canadian address.

Since my library has the first of Cleo Coyle's "Coffeehouse" series (On What Grounds) as an audiobook, and I like that author's Haunted Bookshop series, written under the name Alice Kimberly, I decided to give this one a try. the narration is great, and I like it well so far, although the coffee-themed references are laid on a bit thick.

I gave up on the only one I've tried to read because of the coffee stuff. It seemed like the story was just a vehicle to show off the author's knowledge of coffee.

I'll probably finish this one, but the rest of the series ... unlikely. Thanks for the confirmation of the conclusion I'd reached!

Too lazy to search the thread, but I notice that the Amanda Cross "Kate Fansler" series is trickling into ebooks at Amazon (entire series is being reprinted in paperback after Carolyn Heilbrun's death apparently).

I've enjoyed all of them so far (I think I'm on the sixth one). I don't even DRINK coffee, LOL. But I do enjoy the books.

I wrote a subsequent post that I bailed on it -- all that coffee talk grew obnoxious after a while.

Ah ha! Here are my people! I'm fairly new to the mobileread forums and couldn't find you first time out.

I like a lot of the old cozies, but sadly many aren't in e yet (like Charlotte MacLeod and Joanna Carl). Of the newer authors I like Krista Davis, Melinda Wells, Kate Borden, Jenny Bentley, Connie Shelton. Joanna Fluke, Maria Schneider, Donna Andrews....

The Coyle books bothered me not so much because of the coffee stuff but because of her ex-husband. She's a good writer but the husband just pushed the wrong buttons.

The ex-husband was, indeed, arrogant. I like the author's Haunted Bookshop series (written as Alice Kimberly), although the "romance" angle where the women + ghost are together in her dreams is rather contrived.
