What would happen if I don't rename the file to "update.zip" and just left it with the name it has when I download it "update.zip.ermine-0.9"

Most likely it just wouldn't run the update process.

File's corrupt, sorry. Get it again. I'm trying to get backups of them myself; I'm sure some others on Mobileread have them. We should probably put them in a "enTourage Survivors' Repository" so nobody has to go through this again.
It needs to be called update.zip for Android to recognize it as a flashable ROM. |

Are files when viewed on your PC showing the file extension e.g. .exe, .txt, .zip, etc.? Windows has a setting that hides common file extensions. When renaming the file to update.zip it maybe actually update.zip.zip. Another user mentions this in another thread. Just a thought. |

Also, you can try reformatting your stick to FAT. My original PE (few weeks ago) took many, many tries when I used my FAT32 stick. I did my two new ones this week no problem with a FAT stick.

OK PE Users, I've tried again following everyone's suggestions, I downloaded the file again and renamed it by only removing the extra characters, cleared a thumb drive & verified it is formatted FAT, reset the time & date settings on my PE (I had an error code that said something about my regional & time setting being off which makes sense since I'm traveling in Montana), put the thumb drive into the USB slot, held down the MENU & ROTATE buttons, hit the power button, held the MENU & ROTATE buttons for 10 seconds, the light on the thumb drive flashed on for a minute, went off for a few seconds then came back on and stayed on, the PE started it's boot up, the light on the thumb drive remained on steady, then the PE booted up normally and still didn't take the ERMINE update. I tried it three times with different thumb drive and NOTHING!!!
I do have one question, when I checked the settings it is showing me a model number as "edgejr". Does it matter that it has 'jr' in the model name? The reader screen is labeled as Pocket eDGe. I'm just about ready to smash this thing with a sledge hammer ![]() |

![]() edgejr is the model number for the Pocket eDGe. You'll see that on the Amazon Appstore, too if you have an account there. The big eDGe is just called "eDGe." ![]() I'm sure you've seen splitpersonality's blog, but just in case here it is: http://armjam533.blogspot.com/2011/0...cket-edge.html. If you haven't tried downloading from the second site listed there you might do that, or download from http://dustyfeet.com/edge/ (p-update not e-update). And I'm assuming you have tried FAT32 as well as FAT, or some people have success with a microSD card. I sure hope your Pocket eDGe survives this dark time, and you do too! |

I also highly recommend splitpersonality's instructions. My guess is that it has something to do with the file name.
Once you've got these installed, just remember that your ability to watch videos will still be somewhat limited. You're never actually going to be able to play videos that require Flash. However, you can get YouTube movies to work by installing Google's YouTube application. If you want to figure out how to do this, just follow the instructions for installing the gapps in the tweaks thread. If you want, you can just install YouTube, or you can also add Gmail and other such applications. You're probably never going to be able to run Netflix. From what I understand, the company has been including video codecs with DRM support for particular processors. Unfortunately, we're stuck with a rather weird processor (the Marvell PXA168), which never got widespread support by other manufacturers. As such, I'm guessing Netflix will never think to write a codec for Marvell devices. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and I regularly check the site to see if the xda folk figured out a way around the DRM restrictions. |
