I like this one and is actually the one I own: Timbuk2 Nylon Kindle Envelope Sleeve
actually looking through all the sleeves on amazon, it does seem that that is a pretty good sleeve. although $30 is kind of high for a device that is only just over $100

Agreed! Not only do they provide employment... but do you really want another bricks and mortar book store to disappear? We have so few as it is.

I had 2 Nook classics replaced. The second one was out of warranty. So they do replace out of warranty Nooks on occasion.

When I bought mine, the Kindle was not over 100 bucks .. ... but yeah, not the cheapest one, however, very good quality I must say and has a nice look too, in my opinion.

I had to get my wife's Kindle 2 replaced for a bad screen, no hassle, overnight shipping.

Ditto on my Nook classic, B&N was pretty much the same, except that they took a couple more days.

I guess I'll have to get my library's Kindles and knock them on the wall a couple of times to be able to compare durability with my Nook. :P

On the buttons being stiff on the Nook, they are, but the touch-screen comes in handy for page turns (if it's in my right hand, I touch the right side of thumb to screen; if on left, I swipe across; easy-peasy).

As a guideline, I have weak thumbs. I was using a replacement buttons-only phone for a week when my iPhone was in a temporary coma, and I swear I got cramps in my thumbs everytime I finish messaging someone.

For new STR there is no data yet to say if it's durable or not. It's a new device.

so it's still an incomplete data and do you have a source where thousands have confirmed this is a durable device. To my understanding it's not even a year old. Durable at least mean would mean at the very minimum of 2 years of solid use, droppage, etc.

I would say durability usage of the Kindle 1st and second gen. and the nook classic and such are more of a measuring stick. I got my nook classic about 5 months after it's release and it's going strong. Works great.

but the kindle 3 isn't exactly a battle tested device based on only 9 months of it's release.

Actually, it is not.

Based on the Kindle user's feedback, like here in MobileRead, online, even myself, there are very few issues with Kindle 3 device. This was not the case with other eink readers like Nook Classic which cracked buttons was a well know issue and some wifi problems before 1st firmware upgrade or release (I experienced the wifi issue myself when I had mine)

9 months (I think that's about the time has been out) is enough time to say if the device is good or not, especially when Kindle 3 is an International device, you're reaching much more people, more hands to test, more customers to use it and abuse it.

The Kindle 3 is not a device that will fall apart, that's for sure. You will always find some customers will problems, no way to avoid that, true for all electronics, but on Kindle's case those are a few. And when some serious issues are there, still we have Amazon's customer support which most people agree is better than B&N's one. Amazon customer support is awesome.

How does this make the K3 more durable then NST. This just means we have one device with a good track record and one with no track record. To assume it is better seems just about 1 year premature.

Which means, in my opinion, there is no enough data yet to say if STR is durable or not. I did not say it is more durable or not, not even compared against other eink reader.

Regarding the Kindle 3, I keep my position. I believe is a great device, hardware and software.

I think they are all pretty sturdy. I have a K1 that is going strong. A DXG and a K3. All have spent time in backpacks, at the beach, and traveling. None have had any problems.

All of the e-readers have had some type of mechanical problem with the first batch released. The Sony's had screen issues as did the K2. The K3 has had some problems with the keys. The Nook Classic and Touch have had a few glitches. None have been major.

I have read reports of broken screens for all of the e-readers. I have read about software glitches for all of the e-readers.

You will be fine with pretty much any e-reader. If you are concerned about problems take a look at the customer service. Most Kindle owners who have had problems report a smooth replacement process with the new Kindle arriving in a day or two. I have read posts where BN folks have not had problems replacing their Nooks at the store.

What I read was Sonamunda stating flatly that the Kindle is more durable, then Boswd queried, based on what? Then you said...

I know quibble quibble.

I absolutely agree with your statements on there own just not in response to Boswd questioning of the assertion that therefore the Kindle is more durable.

We agree on the facts, I think the poll is silly because of them.

A sleeve will do you no good at all once you have the K3 out of the sleeve to use it. It will be very unprotected in case it gets bashed or dropped. A sleeve that doesn't fit the device with a case is of no use overall.

It doesn't really protect the reader. The chances are that the reader will need the protection while you are using it and because most sleeves don't fit the reader with a cover, you take a greater risk of damaging your reader. Sure, a sleeve can be cheaper, but it's only partly useful. You still need a cover.
