K3 too thin?
I've had a Kindle 3 for a few months now and for the most part, I love it. The one thing which I'm a little annoyed by is how thin the device is. It sort of feels bony, like it's poking me, in most of the positions I'm used to holding my ereader (I used to have a Sony PRS-600 and before that, the PRS-500). I think a little bit of additional thickness to the Kindle 3 might be more comfortable for holding. Anybody else have a similar experience? Or are there people who find the K3 more comfortable to hold than other devices?

You don't keep it in a case? I just got a new case and its very thick. Very comfortable to hold. I have yet to read my Kindle without holding it in a case.

It's really a personal preference. I've been reading my K3 without its cover for the last week just to try it that way. I have the same impression that it is too thin and awkward for me. I plan to go back to keeping it in a book-style cover to give it some more weight and be more comfortable to me.

No real issue with the thinness for me, though I almost exclusively use my K3 in my case.
I do dream of the K3 in a metal style Sony case though. ![]() |

You could always try getting an Otterbox case for it. Those things add some decent thickness to the devices they cover. My co-workers iThing almost doubled in size when he put it on. Doesn't even really look like the same phone anymore.

I agree, it is too thin. However, after a year with a nook (much thicker) in a case, the Kindle is much better. I get the feeling they assumed most of us would use a case.

Thin = lightweight, which particulrly when reading in bed is a plus, surely? I use my lighted cover for reading after lights-out, but otherwise have no issues with it "au naturel".

I like my K3 "naked", though it is rather thin.
The OP might benefit from one of the silicone cases or one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Incipio-Kindle...253044&sr=1-49 |

This is the M-Edge cover I use. It's very book-like without the carpel-tunnel inducing weight of a book. The K3 is a bit thin without a cover, IMHO. A good case is a needed expenditure, no matter which one you use.

I almost never use my Kindle without a case. The case does add some thickness to the unit for a better hand hold, and as a bonus if the unit is dropped the case provides some protection against damage. I'm sure it would still break if the ground were hard enough or it hit with enough force but the case does offer some protection I think.

I use my K3 almost exclusively without a case. I sometimes wish it was the same thickness as my K2, but overall I really like my K3.

^ Does that include out and about in the big bad world? Or does your K3 live mostly at home?
Gotta say, after a month, I simply could not see myself using my K3 out and about without a case. The screen is simply a bit too fragile I think - seen too many ooopsie horror stories and pics... ![]() |
