I've been thinking of that or maybe dual boot.

Luckily I have a very sweet father and he offered to buy W7 for without me having to suggest it (he dislikes Vista even more than me). I've already got it but I won't have time to install it untill Tuesday. Going to make a back-up of everything tonight and on Sunday I'll have a download session to get all the drivers and other software. At the computer store I asked about installing Windows on my new computer. A while back I asked their main office if you can choose how many partitions you want (I prefer 1 big partition) but they told me they always make 2 partitions. I asked again at the store and they told me that I can choose how many partitions I want. It's €49 to have the hardware of my choice put together and €99 to have it put together and have Windows and the drivers installed. Since installing Windows isn't my hobby and I have to reinstall my old computer to make it ready for the store I go for the €99 package. |

Whats' the opposite of rant?
So far today has been 4 1/2 stars and even the argument I had with my other half was resolved before she went to bed. Lovely sun on the green hills all day, good company, good food. Good night people. ![]() |

Rumpelteazer as long as you actually HAVE install disks, you are happy and able to do a dual boot install (do linux 1st)
the troubles begin when you end up on a machine having one of those f* "restore partition"s hooked up to a bios based trigger, since they need a nonstandard MBR (which one blasts installing linux) |

I love kittens but...
... there is little worse than waking at 4am, having to rush to the bathroom only to discover (too late) that your cat has upchucked into your slippers... Dinner tonight will be catburgers... Stitchawl |

Let's get this out of the way, shall we?
When I hold the door open for you, frickin' say THANK YOU! Or at least nod your appreciation dammit! I lament the loss of common courtesy... |

She meant it... I put out a pot of brand new Oat grass so she'd stop eating my lemongrass plants, and she was angry because although she prefers the taste of the lemongrass, the Oat grass always grabs her attention first... And just to prove it was the Oat and not lemongrass, she puked into my slippers (got both of them too...) just to be sure I would see the grass. Well, I saw it... after I slipped both feet into my slippers in the dark... it only took another 3-4 seconds to realize that the wet, slimy sensation wasn't supposed to be there... But... smart pussy that she is... she didn't try to wake me up this morning as she usually does, by patting my cheek with her paw and meowing at me. She was sitting silently on my pillow, with her nose about 5mm from mine, just staring at me. Oh, the joys of pets. I'm going back to my pet Rock. Stitchawl |

One of the joys of living in Asia. Holding doors is NOT polite. It means that you think the person you are holding it for isn't fit enough to open the door themselves. I've been cursed out by several little old Japanese ladies for presuming such! ![]() Stitchawl |

lol....Indeed, good to know. But man, this is Hong Kong, not China. You'd figure a century of British rule would have had some lasting impact in this area.
I hyperbolize of course. Most people here are polite, sometimes exceedingly so. But that happens to be one of those things that irritate me. When it happens, I look them right in the face and loudly say [in Canto or English, whichever I feel applies]: You're Welcome! btw, this happens in NYC as well ![]() Rant#2: [related] Pretty much zero ATM courtesy in much of HK, especially outside of places with a heavy foreign presence. The concept of minimum ATM space is apparently unknown here. I have learned to deal with it of course, but 18 years ago when I first encountered it, I actually turned around to the old lady standing directly behind me and said in Canto: "Hey, do you want me to take out some money for you too???!?!" She looked at me like I was from Mars... lol |

It's rare for someone NOT to hold the door for you in this town and rarer still, not to be thanked. Even stragers say hello to strangers while out and about. Carrying on the same way when visiting in the city gets some strange looks sometimes. I said hello to one woman in the car park and she locked herself in the car. Quote:
