Just started Options as a Strategic Investment by Lawrence G. McMillan. This is the bible for options traders. I've been intimidated by what other people say about it, but 60 pages in (covered calls), it seems to be very straightforward and accessible so far.

I might have to change my tune when I get to the more sophisticated strategies later in the book.

I wouldn't say it was accessible. But then again, I don't find option trading all that accessible either.

I'm having some fun! A couple of months ago I was given a series of TV mini-movies staring Sean Bean as a soldier in the British Army in the early 1800's. He played a character named Richard Sharp, and each episode was called something like 'Sharp's Rifle' or 'Sharp's Eagle,' etc. Action, adventure, and nicely done.

The series was taken from a series of books written by Bernard Cornwall, so I went looking... I found several 'Sharp's...' books and just started reading the first... VERY entertaining! It moves along quickly like a TV show, but with a bit deeper characterization. And having watched the mini-movies, I am able to put faces to the various characters that come up, which makes it even more enjoyable! This is NOT Dickens or Dostoyevsky, but it is page-turning action for those that like this sort of thing. I'm one of those who like this sort of thing! LOL!

^That might be up my alley. I'm not big on stuff like Dickens. I guess I like "Commercial" fiction as opposed to literary haha

Did you see on the author's website listing the Sharp books (21 so far + Sharpe's Story and some shorts. ), that there is a link for A Timeline for Richard Sharpe's Life?

Sharpe is very popular over here, and has been around for years. For some reason I have never been able to bring myself to read them. Maybe I'll reconsider once I've fully tapped out the zombie vein...

Halfway through book 4 in Song Of Ice And Fire and I must say I enjoyed book 3 better. Some of the characters that played a key role in book 3 are hardly mentioned, and instead even more new characters are introduced . This storytelling of constantly bringing in new characters is something I feel happens throughout the whole series and it gets quite uninteresting. I feel that there's no red line bringing it all together.

A casual conversation takes hours between responses. Other than that the novel was OK. Grade it a C- [2 stars]. I won't read the others in the series.
That goes to show how tastes differ. I actually loved the series for how realistic the handling of the vastness of space was. The time lag plays a huge role on the tactics of battle.

If you haven't already ready them, you might also like the Hornblower novels by C S Forester. (And, although I haven't got ot them myself yet, perhaps the Flashman novels by George MacDonald Fraser and the Aubrey-Maturin novels by Patrick O'Brian.)

Yep, it's vast. Too much down time in the book for me. Also, I couldn't figure out how they can hit anything with their weapons when your radar data is outdated. One small directional change of 0.01 degree 30 light-seconds ago changes your trajectory. How do you know 1 light-minute earlier where your target will be?

You need to shoot where you think your opponents will be and the computers basically handles the actual firing solutions. That's why they actually do extremely close passes during battle, and where tactics/formations come into play.

Before Jack they just faced each other head-on and hoped for the best. He reintroduces tactics and formations.

Thanks, Dreams!! That was wonderful! Not being much of a historian, it shed quite a bit of light on what I had seen and now read. I think I may just watch the films again... I find myself singing the theme song often!

I have the Hornblower novels in my TBR list, and the Flashman novels in my to-be-gotten list! So many books... so little time!

Wow — I bought this back in August 2005. It must be one of the longest serving titles in my TBR pile. The premise is interesting (if only as fantasy): an examination of a life after death. Unfortunately, I'm not certain I'm going to like the way it seems to be going.
I now remember that I have started reading this before. It's preaching disguised as story. I think I probably got as far as last time before giving up in disgust. A right waste of $4.25.

OK, another random pick from my TBR list next:
Silverlock by John Myers Myers. I bought this one in May 2009.

There, I'm finally done with book one Game of Thrones. Rereading is much easier and I can remember about a dozen important names

I don't like it when GRRM used 'Ser' instead of 'Sir', by the way.

And I don't like reading the Daenerys (is that her name, the Dany girl?) parts, not at all. The Dothraki (again, correct me if I get the name wrong) is an upgraded version of Mongolia army, with stupid language and too barbarian action to my taste. 'The stallion that mount the world'? Yeah, I did read about a 87 times before, can you please just say 'the child' or 'the kid' or 'the future khal'?

I enjoy reading Jon Snow, Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister parts.

I'll probably continue with the series but it won't be in my favorite list, because I don't feel the least sympathy with any character in the book and that is one big factor to me to decide it is 5 stars or not. I give Game of Thrones 2 stars.

For a change, I'm reading Ian Fleming's 007: From Russia With Love
