Sorry all, but it's rant time for me this a.m.
Well, it was never my newspaper of choice, I'm glad to say, but our Rupert has sacrificed a 168 year old institution to save one woman, with whom he seems to have a total obsession.
Most of the people losing their jobs @ the "News of the World" were never even working for the hallowed News International when the disgraceful events tookplace.

The notion that those at the top had no idea how their paper got so many good leads, for so many years, beggars belief, and anyway, the buck stops right there - or with Murdoch even.
The possible arrest of James Murdoch holds promise, as does the Coulson situation, but why the recent editor of the paper keeps "a" job even more powerful is laughable - except for those who lost their jobs.

We now face the possible situation that Murdoch is considered a fit and proper person to take monopoly ownership of a major part of the UK media, with no responsibility for anything that goes on under his control.
Or any attractive red-headed person employed by him.....

Slime is a word that comes to mind - and then you look at the governments relationship with this creature.......

The hypocrisy of it all makes me sick. The top management knew and ordered these indeed very reprehensible acts, of course, but now not only do they not want to hear about it, but are condemning innocents instead of taking the responsability as they as managers should.
Edited to say : I personally do not find her attractive at all.

Forgot to mention - who is in charge of the root and branch investigation of these goings-on at NOTW , without fear or favour, to banish for ever this discrace to journalism ?

That smacks of the firm no-nonsense approach to probity, legality and honesty we all admire the Murdoch's for.

I agree it's a disgrace, but they were looking for a way to close it down anyway, and have the Sun go 7 days-a-week, and this is just what they needed to bring it about. I don't think it actually had much to do with Rebekah Brooks in reality.

I'd boycott the lot if I didn't need Sky TV.

Hmm, yes, it's unrealistic to expect an editor of a newspaper to have any idea where all the stories are coming from

The fact that she has kept her job stinks - there's something very odd about that.

I don't doubt she knew exactly what was going on, and should go immediately, I agree.

The point I was making is that this is all playing into Murdoch's hands, and she actually has little to do with what's really going on in the background.

1) Areed, but I doubt very much Murdoch was pleased the opportunity presented itself this way ! Especially as it's cost him money, and has put the takeover lark in a dodgy position - but with this government he'll probably get away with it eventually...
