The Kindle edition idea is looking better and better. Can you print those suckers out at Kinkos?

That's actually not a bad idea. Everyone gets the eBook edition of the book you want to read, and the club members who don't have an eReader can just print their copy at Kinkos or at home or wherever.

Calibre has a Convert to PDF option... and Kinkos will bind stuff, I think.

I know they will, they used to do my friends' term papers.

However, cost of eBook + cost of printing + cost of binding... might be cheaper to just buy a used paper back

Also Kinko's is not supposed to copy copyrighted material. YMMV.

It's more likely that they aren't supposed to copy copyrighted material to which the customer doesn't own the copyright, but...yeah.

Still, seems like a fair use of making a paper backup of your e-book.

Not if you are distributing 10 copies to a book club, though.

Better World Books only has 2 copies for $3.98 each with free shipping. The others are 3rd party sellers and more expensive.

Yes it would be nice if everyone in the group had e-book readers opening up the alternative of purchasing e-books when that alternative is available and was sensible from a price point of view. Unfortunately at present I am the only member of the group to appreciate the advantage of owning an e-book reader. There was even a temporary gleam in my idea at the idea of purchasing multiple e-book versions of an e-book and converting it to print. I already have an epub version myself and, if I was a dishonest man, that alone could supply as many copies as needed. But I am honest and even when considering actually purchasing as many e-book copies as I would eventually like to have in paper form the issues of copyright are still murky. That and when done I would have nothing that would be of any worth donating to my library.

So based on the various suggestions I have located 10 copies in very good or better condition that will run me in total about $60. More than what I would wish, but better than 10 brand new books, or not being able to make this the monthly selection for the bookclub.

Once more thanks to all.

Pretty sure I didn't suggest that.

Pretty sure that the conversation we've been having is that people could buy their own Kindle version and then print it out if they didn't want to use the PC app.

That's what I was talking about at least. As an extra bonus that would spread the expense over all club members.
