Pausing Recipes (like a Holiday mode)
Hello folks,
I genuinely don't know what to be searching for here to answer my question, but I did have a good look around the Bug tracker and this forum for something that would help, but I didn't see anything. I only tend to use the schedule news feature in calibre when I leave to go on my holidays. I love selecting a few recipes, setting up a schedule time and leaving my computer on as I head off to sunnier weather for a couple of weeks! Calibre has worked perfectly, collecting the newspapers every morning and sending them to my kindle email address, so when I connect to the internet in the morning they all download and I can hit the beach and chill out reading. I LOVE IT! Thank you However, it's when I come home that I miss being able to *Temporary* switch off/pause calibre from retrieving the recipes every day. I don't have the time in a normal work week to read everything and so when I launch calibre during the months that I'm not on holiday, it always wants to rush off and get all the news and send them to my kindle...something I don't want. If I go into the schedule news section and untick the "Schedule for download" check box for one of my recipes, the recipe will disappear from my (green) Scheduled list. This is fine, it just means I have to manually remember to set up each recipe again everytime I go on holiday/abroad. Regularly I forget what I had previously set up. If I instead for a recipe, untick every day of the week (mon, tue, wed...) but leave "schedule for download" ticked, I get the following error Quote:
Would there be any chance of getting a "pause all" button for the fetching the news? That way, I could set up every news source I wanted, click pause, then in a few months/weeks when I am next heading away, I can unpause it and everything will kick off again - making me a very happy bunny. I hope that all made sense, perhaps the feature already exists - could someone point it out to me!!? Thank you for your time. |

The feature doesn't currently exist. To request it, you'd go through the bug reporter. To work around, you can probably find the scheduled recipe list (I think it's scheduler.xml) in the config directory and edit it, then replace it with the unedited copy when you want to resume. IIRC, there's a line in there for each scheduled recipe. I don't have time to test it out, but perhaps Kovid or someone else will comment on whether that would work for you.

I have (kind of) done this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/806939
The scheduler.xml work around is certainly something that would be easy to implement. My only concern, would newer versions of Calibre possibly produce a different structure in the scheduler.xml file, so that when I used my old file months later would it cause a wobbly and/or errors..... Suppose only testing will answer that! (But I'd probably be sitting by the pool at that stage ![]() |
