help me decide

i was looking for a tablet to use as an e-reader a year ago.
several forum members suggested i wait for 2011 and im glad i did.

the selection i get for the price i am only able to afford is the
samsung galaxy tab wifi and archos 7" and 10" models as this are the cheapest brand name models here in the Philippines.

i'm looking for a tablet that can read legit (paid) ebooks/comics/manga and the vast amount of free pdfs, manga, comics and jpegs circling the internet.
music and movies are not a priority, a simple web browser can be helpful.

i'm leaning more towards the samsung galaxy tab, am i going in the right direction? i'm targeting September as to when i'm gonna buy one.

thank you for your insights in advance.

I'm not very familiar with tablets, but you may find that in September there is even something better and cheaper. Technology moves so quickly you never know.

Well first of you need to decide if you want the ability to read abosolutely anything even obscure titles, if so go with the non-tablet that Sylvie has called the Kindle. Let's face it amazon has everything.

The Barns and Nobles Simple Touch is technically a tablet not an electronic book reader and where that really shines is in the interface.

Kobo Touch is also a tablet and its, from what I hear the simplest thing out there.

An ipad is definetly a tablet it its very good at what it does, troubble is that its proprietary meaning you are forced to buy the apps that Apple says you can have with no competition. For some that may be ok you need to decide for yourself.

For more information I recommend http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,2806,2358246,00.asp and http://www.pcworld.com/products/tablets.html

One issue with most of the Android tablets, such as the Samsung, is that they have a 16:9 aspect ratio. That's great for movies, but it's just the wrong shape for reading books - it's too tall and narrow. A 4:3 aspect ratio, such as the iPad has, works a lot better.

And I'm glad it's that way, because reading books on my Nook Color is the last thing I'd ever do with it.

the galaxy tab and archos are my only choices at this point and the readers jbcohen mentioned are not available here except for the kindle.
im a bit far from the capital so im only limited on my selection
the galaxy tab i can buy at a local store and the archos via a local archos distributor online.

so i don't have any choice at this point. so which is better as a reader the tab or archos?
