Well, fur can keep you cool as well as warm... It's just insulation, right. If the outside temperature is above body temps, the fur can keep you cooler.
As for drinking hot tea when it's hot... that's standard practice in all the desert countries around the world! Hot sweet tea is the usual drink in the Middle East on hot days. Personally, I prefer an Ice Tea from Starbucks... Stitchawl |

Apparently, we had an earthquake last week too. Fairly strong (for our standards: 2.7). I was outside and never noticed a thing! And the epicenter was about 10km away from us.

And out and about, I prefer orange juice... Don't like iced tea at all! (hmmm, I'd like to have some freshly squeezed orange juice right now!) |

![]() I read about it long long time ago when I was younger and smarter. Don't remember the details now, older and not as smart... ![]() As Stitchawl said the fur is an insulator. It doesn't care whether to keep one from cold or hot, it just strives to maintain the same temp inside. I don't remember the details about drinking hot tea that cause you to perspire thus helping to maintain the proper body temp. Something to do with the importance of sweating when you are feeling hot. Easier to cool down then? I give up, I am just guessing. I don't remember. The first time I heard about was on the train to Moscow when I was 12. It was scorching hot and a lady sitting next to me suggested to drink hot tea. As many youth of a certain age who think they know better, I smirked disdainfully. Hot tea when it is so hot?!? (I being I, I said it aloud). She was not offended, but instead explained to me why and suggested to try. I do remember that on the one hand (as I predicted) I started to sweat, a lot (profusely?) but on the other hand as she promised it helped. I felt significantly cooler and better. ![]() I cannot sweat sitting in the office, so I resort to water ![]() Water in a flask. Last edited by astra; 07-05-2011 at 07:42 AM. |

The thing about that, and drinking hot drinks to cool you down, is that the principle is to cause you to sweat, which then cools you. But who wants to sit about sweating buckets on a hot day
