Bookeen Cybook Gen3 - Out of Stock

Thanks - they're obviously significantly improved it! I used to get around 8h-10h out of mine with the "old" battery, and my understanding was that the new battery only had 20% greater capacity?

I also emailed Bookeen when I saw this message. They have not replied yet - although assuming they were off for Easter they would have only got the mail this morning.

What I want to know is does the "out of stock" apply to orders placed now, or orders already placed.

Just circumstances. I bought the Sony with a view to utilising it whilst I am in Baghdad, but I did not really appreciate the restrictions on purchasing books outside the US, let alone from Australia, as well as the antiquated Sony Bookstore and its inability to work through a proxy server. I then Bought the Bookeen Cybook to overcome these problems. I was toying with the notion of the Iliad at the same time, but could not see the reason for the almost double price, after seeing the review on this thread I decided to buy it, for all those features that I was unaware off.
I can also now keep my general fiction reader on the Bookeen and if it gets trashed whilst I am over here, I have a good backup unit left that can read Mobipocket books

Since firmware v2.12 there's a serif font installed, you only have to activate it.

Just an update. I ordered mine shortly before the "Out of stock" notice went up, and today...

From that I am concluding that the out of stock notice applied to orders placed at that point onwards, not to orders previously placed.

Hehe, the iLiad is sold out at the moment aswell. But not that long. iRex is calculating their demand a bit better than the other companies.

I've read this on eReaderOutfitters.com too, interesting to hear it is a supplier problem. Maybe it's a shortage of eInk screens rather than the devices itself?

Yes, it's certainly a screen shortage. The screens of all the eInk devices are made by the same company (PVI in Taiwan) and their manufacturing capacity can't currently keep up with demand. All eInk devices are in short supply, on and off, as a result.

I hope they are building more capacity. Obviously it is needed and will pay off.

BooksOnBoard has Cybooks again, but they can only sell to US and Canada. They get a new order every couple weeks.

if someone in the USA wanted to purchase a Gen3, how much would it cost in US Dollars?

Looking at the web site, Jon, they're charging €339, including the Italian VAT rate of 20%. Knock that off and you get €282.50 which, at today's exchange rate, is US$446. Add - what? $40 for insured postage and you're looking at close to US$500. Unfortunately the current exchange rates don't makes shopping at stores in the "Euro zone" terribly favourable for people in the US.
