LOL... I'm sure I'll hear some of those this weekend, surprisingly, not yet.

Oddly enough, I don't hear a single firecracker going off... yet we can buy them in every supermarket and department store!

Pooh, did your neighbors talk to my neighbor? Was jolted out of bed earlier than I wanted by a chainsaw - my neighbor-on-the-left - the same one who is OCD about her lawn and mows it every three days plus weed whacking and then blowing off all the clippings with a VERY LOUD leaf blower, and she does this in the early mornings "before it gets too hot" - decided to take out one of the trees between our backyards. your lefty must be related to "Mr Precious" from across the road. Mows every second day in summer. Only weekly now it is cold and the grass grows slow. then spends hours blowing every bit of grass off his driveway with that blasted noise maker. then runs around with a bucket picking up every leaf. It took him at least three hours to vacumm a car last month. And a couple of week ago he was out on his driveway about 6 inches from the road with a bucket and scrubbing brush (thankfully quiet) getting a stain off! what a whacko! I wish he would get a job! - Not cleaning cars in our street.

No... They go directly from the 3rd to the 5th.

As my son once asked me, coming home from his Spanish class in jr high, "when do you celebrate Cinco de Mayo, por favore?"

There really aren't that many American in Asia, compared with Brits, Canadians, Kiwis and Aussies. Proly less than 10% American. But Japan is big on fireworks, and there are several major holidays with displays. As I said, you can purchase mini-fireworks in all the shops; sparklers, and wizzzers mostly, though you can easily find the aerial displays too.

There is a festival in mid-August in Osaka called PL-Hanabi (hanabi = fire flowers) where SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS worth of fireworks, almost 2,000,000 different aerials, are shot off over the course of about 90 minutes. At any given time, the sky looks like the finale of the US Bi-Centennial Fireworks Display. The PL finale is absolutely breathtaking...

Oh ... there was a tarnished silver lining to my dark cloud ... it seems my neighbors just wanted their house cleaned - but the pressure washing removed a lot of paint - so now they will HAVE to have the house painted - unexpectedly!

[with my luck, they'll have it spray painted next Saturday morning]

Sh*t, came off my bike today. Fractured collar bone. Entirely my own fault; took a kerb at the wrong angle. Irony is it is the same shoulder that I was having physio on for being semi-frozen. At least three weeks off the bike - bugger!

PS. Typing left handed is terribly slow and mistake ridden!

Thanks both. Got my wife here and, as she sympathetically noted, it's a good job it's the same shoulder as is frozen otherwise we may have to be intimate in ways neither of us is keen on . Unfortunately I do all the cooking so may get familiar with the local kebab shop!

Nasty. One of my staff broke his collar bone recently falling off his mountain bike (very painful, he said), and the only cure is rest while it heals. My sympathies.

I broke mine when I was six. Fell off a porch onto a concrete slab. I remember getting my arm stuck above my head one night sleeping.. hurt like heck trying to get it down the next morning! So sorry you're hurt, hope you heal quickly!
