Can some brave soul monitor the freebie forum and bring us the freebs in this thread? SAVE US FROM OURSELVES!!

You people are all SICK! I empathize with you, but I won't admit to anything myself. Those 99-cent books they sneak in with the freebies are just too tempting. Aaaarrgh.

A very good point and certainly there are worse things to be addicted to than the printed word. At least with books you get a lasting benefit out of the addiction unlike with alcohol or tobacco products. And books don't negatively affect your health either.

Do I get bonus addiction points for buying the ABBY FineReader OCR program so I can convert my backlist to eBook form before we move, or does it have to be new books for the addiction to count?

At least it was on sale from $400 to $170........

Well Ana... you know the answer yourself, don't you?

I bought my two books this morning. Everytime I woke up tonight, I checked, if they were already available. Sony was even faster than Amazon, which I found amazing.

I am officially a failure in this thread

It's 1st July, and I've managed to not buy any ebooks since 6th June.

My next target it to hold off on any purchases until at least the 16th July. That's only another two weeks, I should be able to make it.

My ratio of "books I've bought and read":"books I've bought" for this year now stands at 101:157. And if I count in free ebooks I've read, and books I've otherwise discarded from my TBR pile, I'm at 128:157!

If I do well, I might be close to a 1:1 ratio by the end of July, and have a TBR pile of under 400!

Don't feel bad Poppaea, I fell off the same wagon today myself. I bought two books at around $9.99 each today (though I can at least claim they are conversions since I had the pbook versions in my library already. I bought Story Structure Architect & 45 Master Characters. Still 1 or 2 books with an actual price tag on them per month isn't a bad ratio I think. I bought my last one just about a month ago though that one was only $2.99 so I spent around $15.00 more today. Just couldn't resist the allure of the writing books.lol.

Oh, Crich, you are such a sweetheart!!! I bought three times more last month than in any other month before. And even when I did not buy an awfull lot since I have my reader, I should be careful with money right now.

Will read the two new ones and the rest of those I bought last month, I think there are four unread, and then try to stick to freebies for the rest of July.

Ana, Pooh, Brat, Crich, thanks for the encouragement folks! I really appreciate it

I fell off the wagon with a mighty thump yesterday [anyone hear it?]

(but was I ever on the wagon ... or just running alongside yelling "Jump!")

anyways ...

I just "happened" to be browsing the Kindle store
(I have a list of 'classic' authors that I read in pbook form that I periodically check to see if publishers have added their backlist titles to the ebook catalog)

when I found .... [cue screams of joy here]

Patricia Wentworth's "Miss Silver" detective books

AND

Anne Perry's Charolette & Thomas Pitt detective books

AND

Things went dark for a few minutes ....
And I heard violins playing ....
And a roaring in my ears ....
[and the muted shrieking of my wounded credit card]

When my eyes finally focused on my computer screen ....

My index finger was aching, still poised over the "Buy Now With 1-Click" button, and my email notification indicated I had ..... errrr ..... "several" new emails from Amazon confirming my ..... errrr ..... purchases ....

I ran to my Kindle and activated the Wi-Fi .... and to my inexpressible horror
new books downloaded & appeared on my Home screen!

How could this have happened?
What will my friends in the Addicts club think of me?
How could I be so weak?

Is there any hope left for my shattered psyche?

Have to go read now ......
