It bothers me that I have to ask for info to find out what the deal is. It's like buying windows: When you go to the Home Expo and ask how much a window is and they say, "Our salesman will come to your home and give you a quote," it's always best to say "No thanks!" (It will be a cold day in hell before I let another @#%*! window salesman in my home! It had to practically beat the last one out with a 2x4.)

But okay, that aside, right now B&N makes up about 2% of my sales, through PubIt!. Amazon makes up the other 98%. Smashwords (which includes Kobo, Sony, Diesel, and Apple) hasn't sold a book in months, according to my sales report. Is it really worthwhile to add yet another outlet that may never sell enough copies to warrant issuing a check?
That's.... I don't understand. Are you saying that BoB doesn't offer the flat rate that, say, Amazon / B&N offers to publishers? That you have to solicit them to find out how much you'd get from sales posting your book on their site?

That's very weird to me. Is there a single rate for everyone that is just SUPER SECRET, or are there different rates for different authors??

I would find this germane as a customer because I'm not sure how I feel about that.

It's not just about my book, Kate, or yours, or even Matheson's. It's all of the above and many, many, many more if they're snubbing indies.

Of course, it's well within their right to snub indies. And I'm not saying that it's a lousy bookstore for you if you like it. I'm just saying that it obviously isn't going to meet my needs.

I got the impression that Books on Board was all about Romance, not my sort of thing.

Luck;

They sell stuff from all the major pubs and some smaller digital first/only pubs, but their newsletters would lead you do believe that practically all they do is romance a lot of the time. I suppose since Romance is the number one selling genre for ebooks they tend to focus on that.

where they get their ebooks

Where stores get their ebooks:

Omni-lit carries a number of smaller publishing houses, as well as the major ones, you can register there yourself, but they also get ebooks through Overdrive.

BoB gets its books through Overdrive (as well as Lightning Source?) Kobo requires its own registration through. Diesel gets its ebooks through Lightning Source, I believe? Powells through Lightning Source and another one whose name escapes me.

I believe that both Overdrive and Lightning Source require tax id numbers.

If you are looking for indie stuff your best bet is most likely Smashwords.

You can adjust what the BoB emails to show only genre's that you like. BoB carries a decent variety in my opinion, but it can take some digging because their website is not the most user friendly, even though they recently redid it.

I suppose there is nothing wrong in using more than one book store.
