You can add personal documents to all of them. I think that the Kindle is the only one you can email them to.

The no ePub argument that always comes up against the Kindle is not fair in my opinion.
There are hardly any DRM epub books that are not available for the Kindle in the .mobi or .amz file format, and the epub books that are not available for the Kindle are most likely DRM free. You can convert the files using Calibre. I guess when people think of ePub they think that B&N automatically syncs all ePub books that you put on your Nook. This is false as non-B&N DRM books will not be synced to your device. You will have to manually do it. |

Sure it's fair. the advantage of ePub isn't so much the selection. It's two major things 1. You can shop around to take advantage of sales, discounts and promotions of other ebook stores 2. your epub library goes where you go. I have tons of epub books. If I decieded I want to go to Sony or Kobo etc. they come with me. without having to go through the process of stripping and converting. And remember converting books from one format to another doesn't always come out clean. There are many times they become a mess. So yes the ePub argument is fair. |

I buy numerous ePub books and convert them to Mobi format for the Kindle - it works just fine. I don't recall ever having had a significant problem.

If looking for th best deal and selection is important to you, you'd be foolish to choose a reader that 'locks you out' of Amazon. Quote:
It is possible that there could be a problem in conversion, but like Harry, I've never noticed a significant problem, and it's just as likely to find a problem in source book to begin with. Last edited by ApK; 06-30-2011 at 08:45 AM. |

Other devices are "locked-out" of Amazon ![]() B&N, on the other hand, does exactly that - and, as far as I know, you can read B&N-books on a Sony-reader. |

As I've said numerous times, I don't see this as a significant issue on either side, and I can;t find evidence that any significant number of people do. As for being able to read B&N type DRM on Sony, got any source, because last I heard here you could not. You could only read B&N DRM on nooks, and a few virtually unheard of second-tier readers. Great if you can. I'm all for interoperability. But if not, please stop the lying. Last edited by ApK; 06-30-2011 at 09:25 AM. |

The only reason I chose the Nook over the Sony what the price. Then you can't be for the Kindle/Amazon. |

Sure I can. And I can be for my Sony and the new nook I have an eye on too.
It's trivial for me to make everything work with everything. It's current DRM mechanisms I can't be for. And that goes for B&N as much as Amazon. p.s. I can also be for encouraging Amazon to support other formats, which I do. Last edited by ApK; 06-30-2011 at 11:21 AM. |

You can authorize the Jetbook through ADE and then read B&N books on it. If you get books from B&N. I don't.
Go, Kindle! I'll take their DRM books any day. I won't buy DRM books anywhere else. |
