There were two wallabies on the side of the road on the way to work this morning. Plenty of slow foxes around here too. I saw a car exactly like mine in the repair shop that hit a kangaroo on the same stretch of the mountain I go over twice a day. It wasn't pretty. Those silly drivers that tail gate had better keep back because I brake for animals. Haven't hit one yet but would have hit plenty without braking.

And now for my rant! I returned home from visiting my sister last Sunday to find no internet. The phone line has been down ever since and the battery in the mobile phone has given up the ghost. Last week Telstra promised they would have it fixed by 7pm this evening. Is anyone here a gambler?

The good news is I haven't had a direct marketer call me from India trying to get me to switch phone companies this week.

Wannabee, mate, you have to come up with a better rant than that....

I am just back from Manila and I have to say I wish my company would send me there. The soft skills there are so much better than here it hurts! Seriously, I swear I had heart palpitations in the airport...sigh

Thats it, no more rants, the Lithium is kicking in

*&(*&$#^)@*($!!!!!!!!!!

Today the 3rd quarter programming started on RTV. I'm in shock. Adam-12 is no longer on. I'm so... I'm... Okay, I know I'm a crazy person. We ALL know that. But I have watched Adam-12 every weekday afternoon since I got back to Nashville last year. I am really torn up over this.

I have season 1 on DVD, so there's that. I've already started reminding my friends that I have a birthday coming up and Seasons 2 through 5 are available and would make lovely gifts. But I know my friends, and I won't be getting Adam-12 for my birthday. I've also contacted Shout Factory to politely inquire as to when Seasons 6 & 7 will be released, if ever.

But it's still not the same as having it on TV. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me. It's a part of my day!! Go ahead, call me a drama queen for being desperate over a TV show that's been off the air for decades, but I am very serious about this - if I don't get my Pete Malloy fix, I will not be happy. And when the Brat's not happy... you know the rest.

That is all.

No, I get it. I was the same way when they moved/took off Charmed from its afternoon slot here. That was what I did after Chris left and before I went to work: Fixed lunch and sat down to watch Charmed.
I think that was a big reason why I didn't really mind when we ditched premium tv service...

Oh poor baby

You wouldn't believe it? When I got home last night the phone had been fixed. Every day for the last week has been a picture post card of blue sky and floating white clouds over the green hills. The boss is interstate and not hassling me. I just finished a nice lunch and think I'll make a cuppa and start back on the next couple of chapters laying out her new book. Then I'll drive the 20 minutes home across the range and open a bottle of red.

Hows that for a rant?

You wouldn't believe it. My work colleague just came over to my desk and said she's just made a new pot of coffee if I want it.

Ok this is going to sound pathetic since I do tech-support for a living but....

I bought a new laptop. It arrived Wednesday. Glorious beautiful ASUS with amazing nvidia graphics and the new quad core Sandy Bridge processor! perfection!! I backup all my files to my external hdd and port everything over. No biggie.

Decided to give my old laptop to my mom to save her from having to buy one. In the format process. Attempting to install WinXP and the included drivers (these are the discs that came with it, mind you). 3 hours later.......it still isn't recognizing half of the drivers, the main one being the wireless adapter. SO FREAKIN TICKED!!!

I do this for a LIVING and I can't get XP to install correctly. Ugh, stick a fork in me...I'm done.

If you're installing WinXP (from a desktop version CD) onto a laptop - it can be hellish - esp. if it's XP home edition. I have found that XP has a lot of issues recognizing drivers, ports, hardware, etc. if it's not the original box it was installed on. I wonder if the discs that came with the laptop were really for the desktop version, and some "tweaks" were done in factory to get it onto the laptop. Depending on the age of the laptop, you may be experiencing a mis-match between what's actually on the CD and the hardware in the laptop.

I know how you feel, we have the same problem with kangaroos. There's one spot near home where they are on the road nearly every time I come home from band practice and I crawl along at about 60kph, usually with some idiot tailgating me. So far I've managed to avoid them but it's been touch and go a few times.

When I was growing up in rural Wisconsin, it was a real treat to see a deer grazing in a field, and sometimes a year or two would pass without seeing any. And other wildlife, except rabbits and squirrels was nearly as rare.

I went back to visit my aging mother a few years ago, and the place was a veritable zoo. The deer were everywhere; at one point I was forced to stop and let a whole herd of them cross the road while the buck stood in the middle of the road staring at me while his harem crossed. I saw wild turkeys, raccoons, foxes, bald eagles, badgers, and even a great horned owl.

The farmers hate it, the critters decimate their crops!

It was worse a couple of summers ago. I left to go pick up Chris from work at 10:30 at night, and I had Jay (my son) with me. He says, "Mom, what's that at the end of the block?" It was a deer. We don't live on the outskirts of town, either, this is a fairly surrounded residential neighborhood. Same summer, I was coming home my usual route and a deer bounded in front of me across N. Court St. - trying to get to a green patch behind our local car dealership. Scary.

please keep in mind that a major reason for seeing so many deer these days is that humans are encroaching on the deer's feeding areas, cutting down too much habitat, forcing the deer to look for food closer to humans. we keep putting in more housing developments, reducing the food supply.

About 5 years ago, I was driving in my VW Rabbit after dark on a country road, and a doe bounded into the road, crossed it and then stopped on the edge with her rear end still in my path. I swerved left as far as I could (didn't want a head-on collision in the left lane) and smacked into her. She was seemingly fine - and bounded away. My entire right front headlight assembly was crushed, the radiator grill bent, etc.
Before this had happened, I had attached "deer alert" whistles to my car (I do a lot of driving on country roads) [http://www.amazon.com/Wind-Activated...436514&sr=1-2]. Ironically, after the collision, the right side warning whistle was pointing straight up! I guess she heard the whistle, and stopped to listen!
