People haven't stopped completely buying HP/Palm phones, but I think it's safe to say they're trounced. I don't necessarily think the iPhone is being trounced, but clearly, the bar is a little bit lower than you imply here.

Android increased its U.S. market share lead to 53 percent as 2010 closed, up 9 percentage points over Q3--Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS slipped 4 percentage points to account for 19 percent of sales, tied with Research In Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry (down 2 percentage points).

That does not say iPhone sales slipped. I'd bet following the link would reveal that.

Rockdaman's right here. The overall market is growing, so Apple could have slipped by 4% of the overall smartphone sales but still have increased sales themselves.

iPhone sales slipped in proportion to Android sales. That's clear from the figures I quoted.

Funny you should mention that. Here's the lead paragraph:

iPhone shipments increased, but shipments aren't the same thing as sales.
