FBReader - is it possible to configure it to display enbeded epub formating?

Hi all,

This may be a silly question, as I understand that one of the reasons people enjoy FBreader is that is seems to strip the formating and display epubs the way IT wants too.

My question is, is it possible to configure FBreader to follow the enbeded formating in an epub? the way that adobeview does?

I love the configuration options for it, but really want to have the formating that I spend adding to various ebooks to show up.

Things like ... bold centering, sub / superscripts .. paragraphs actually starting on a new page etc.

IE .. if the formating is in the epub, is there a way to make fbreader USE that formating?

It's a while since I played with this, but I think the simple answer is no, FBreader ignores css styling.

The best I was able to do was play with the file called style.xml (I think) in /system/config

You can control the appearance of some epub html tags with this file e.g.
Headers <h1> - <h6>, called "Header 1" to "Header 6"
Paragraph <p>, called "Regular Paragraph"
Subscript, Superscript ,
Image <img>
The problem is that (hardly surprising given it's called fbreader) it is geared to fb2 files not epub. Most of the fb2 tags are not used in epub.

So, you can control your headers and body text with this style file. But for things like blockquotes, scene-breaks, verse it's pretty unsatisfactory if you're used to epubs displaying correctly, as they do in AdobeViewer. I gave up on fbreader some time ago for this very reason.

Yes, I only use AdobeViewer. I've thought about looking at CoolReader but never quite summoned up the energy - I couldn't take the disappointment if it still doesn't support CSS properly .

After the last year's fiasco with PocketBook continually failing to deliver a fully working v15.3 firmware I'm rather disillusioned with PB as a whole. It's a nice little reader but it could have been so much better, if only everything just worked as it's supposed to.

I do most of my reading on my Sony PRS650 these days. I just use the PB360 when I'm out and about.

askyn, what firmware are you on? I am on 15.3 beta, and the Hacked Adobeviewer does preserve all the formatting (with the "standard" one I have problems with the fonts), at least as far as I can see.

EDIT: a lot of useful information is provided by Jackie adn rkomare in this thread (yes, it was on the Pro models, but the info on CSS is "general")
