It was doubly so for Mr. Lucas since he was able to see what was coming when the studio wasn't and handed over what he wanted without much (if any)trouble. They probably figured, "he'll throw some money at merchandizing and lose it, nothing for us to be concerned over." Star Wars has been good to him. lol.

Personally, I love that she gives back. Look at all the rock stars that left the UK in the 70's for example because of the high taxes. She hasn't. I read somewhere once that the taxes that she pays alone covers the cost of the very program that once helped her. That blew my mind.

More power to her! Go Jo!!
Yeah she took a chance indeed since series books and books about boarding schools don't usually have such a following. Of course she not only has given back in the form of taxes in the UK but by helping to inspire millions of young children to read. That's the more important, longer lasting contribution.

I quoted the article and it says book two will go live in early 2012. To me, that means the website content. eBooks don't actually go live. They go on sale.

I love the way O'Reilly does their ebooks. I don't understand the opposition to it.

I'd buy one if it has a non-cheesy Harry Potter/magic-theme protective film already stuck on it. Maybe a stylus that looks like a wand.

Sorry, but it is not the same as a name plate in a paper book.

It's just a way to track you down should any of your copies get loose.
If anyone stole your ebook reader all its contents would be deleted before it was sold on. If you lost it and someone honest found it there would be better ways of marking it with your contact details.

Forget the article, go right to the source, the press release for the Pottermore site.

"The storyline of the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, will go live on the site in early 2012. The Pottermore Shop opens when the site opens to all in October, selling complete ranges of the eBooks and digital audiobooks in a selection of languages, exclusively."

If you watch the YouTube announcement she states the same thing. All the eBooks and audiobooks will be available for purchase in October through the Pottermore Shop. The reference to the second book, Chamber of Secrets, refers only to the online content.

I don't like the implementation on my Sony either. And yes, it's the 650. I miss the top margin. It's too close to the border and the shadow of the bezel falls over the top line.

I'm also interested in the "digital audiobooks". I wonder if they are the digitized version of the CD versions. And if so, how they'll be offered.

(anybody who hasn't heard the Stephen Fry version, you should, it's awesome!)

Well, the only reason the watermark is still there is because removing it from pdf is such a pain.

But I'm too attached to the hp books to have them spoiled with "licensed to EowynCarter" even once.

That may sound stupid, but where do I see this watermark? I've read several O'Reilly books now, but never noticed anything resembling a watermark.
(Of course, I now also send them through Calibre before reading, because they work faster afterwards, so maybe Calibre removes it?)

Well, there is a good point about o'reilly's watermark, it's not intrusive. But it's there indeed.

I'd guess they're MP3's of the CD versions, I don't know what else they would be. Whether it'll be the Fry versions only or also the Jim Dale ones who knows. The Jim Dale ones have been available through iTunes (at least the US store) since like '05, but if Pottermore is going to be the exclusive place for digital audio I guess Apple is losing them?

I agree the Fry versions are great (although the Dale ones aren't bad either).

From the above Book Seller article:

All I saw was "availability across all reading devices" and "intention ... to be an online reading experience."
