To Have or To Be? by Erich Fromm

I started reading it last week, after it had been waiting for me patiently on my book shelf for almost --- 3 years!

I think Fromm was one of the greatest thinkers and psychologists of the 20th centurey. Between the lines you can notice his well developed intuition as well as his love for the humankind. I get the feeling that he surely "walked his talk! His book The Art of Loving Plays a key role in a research-work I wrote about The Meaning of Suffering. Am only at the beginning of it, so, for the moment I will just put a quote from the cover: "If we were consciously aware of what we really know about ourselves and others, we could not go on living as we do, accepting so many lies." Enjoy, Sara Last edited by maggievnc; 06-23-2011 at 03:29 PM. Reason: spellcheck |

I just finished Jim Butcher's Death Masks (Dresden Files #5). I'm really starting to like this series. My two main problems with the series up to now was that Harry kept complaining a lot and his need to help women. The complaining became less and less over the last couple of books. He still wants to help women but it isn't as annoying as in previous books, he now also thinks of his own safety.

Now on with Joseph Nassise's The Heretic (#1 The Templar Trilogy). Years ago I read Riverwatch and loved it, only to find out his book were only available in Geman in the Netherlands. I recently discovered his books are available at Amazon. I wrote about this in the lounge and a couple of days later I got a PM from Joseph Nassise offering to email me The Heretic! So the book jumped to the top of my TBR list. |

Most of my reading is confined to non-fiction. Although I like to read all kind of interesting books.

I know that at some point in the past The Finkler Question was nominated for the monthly book club, but did not in the end come in first. It did sound very good to me, so I always have kept it in mind as a potential next read. So I got around to it yesterday, I am about a third through it now, and can say what a delight. Big recommendation from me.

Okay, RR Martin fans--that book that says it is coming out in July (Book 5) is that the one that is delayed? I know there's been some discussion that I've completely ignored, but now I have a friend reading book 4 and she was telling me how excited she is that Book 5 is due...and I recalled the discussion. But maybe it's book 7 that is delayed???

A Dance with Dragons (Book 5) is the book that's coming out now and was delayed numerous times. I think it was initially planned for release in 2008. Most people didn't want to believe that it was in actually fact coming out this year until pics surfaced showing the finished manuscript.
