does the ghosting look like you can see mainly the edges of the letters that were one the previous page? In that case this could be edge-ghosting. Something that can be expected from non-flashing updates. It shouldn't harm the display and the ghosting should be completely erased after the next flashing display update.

I had the severe ghosting again today. I tried pressing the "n" button twice, but it didn't help. Had to reboot as done previously (on the 16th). This time I was reading a book, then pressed "More" in the menu to read the reviews. While I was reading them it happened.

I too had the problem. The only solution I found so far is to shutdown completely the Nook. I've tried to understand where this ghosting comes from but can't really figure out.
I'm on the screensaver, unlock the screen, start to read and sometimes, you see the refresh is stronger and the screen appears darker, when it happens I sigh and reboot it. It's really annoying. I don't know if anyone complained to B&N and if they have an idea of the problem but I'd really like to get rid of this

It's really a weird issue, you can reproduce it I think under certain circumstances which I hope B&N will be able to point out and fix.

I will send them an email just to have the comforting thought that they know.

This is the most over-blown issue I've ever seen about an e-reader. Ghosting barely happens on the NT, mainly when you go from a book page to a graphic page, like Home.

Other than that, you'd need a magnifying glass to see any previous-page artifacts.

That's what I was thinking until last night. I got my Nook STR about 11 days ago and had read three complete books on it since then and was about half-way through a fourth when I got the ghosting (on one page-turn only). Most of the words were very faint, but I was clearly able to make out a few of them. When I paged back, there they were. However, after that they went away again.

So for me, the problem didn't show up until after I'd read over a thousand pages. Also, it was nowhere near as bad as tk_kat's example in post #68. And my ghost images were light gray, not whitish as tk_kat's were, and as SCION describes.

So far, though, only one example of legible ghosting in four books. I can live with that. Just hoping it doesn't get worse.

it was 4 times in one book for me :/
I emailed B&N and here is their answer:

Quote:
Thank you for writing to us.

From the problem you described, you may need to refresh the digital
content on your NOOK 2nd Edition. Please follow these easy steps:

? Turn off your NOOK 2nd edition completely by pressing and holding down
the power button for about 10 seconds.
? After one minute, turn your NOOK Color on.
thanks I guess...

This thread addresses 2 related display issues.

1) Horrendous degradation of display. Previous pages are obvious. Occurs infrequently, but is a showstopper. Certainly not over-blown. Its a bug which is lurking in a multitude of the devices less used features which needs to be fixed. It makes this device look like it was programmed & tested by amateurs.

2) Modest degradation of display, akin to fading. Occurs constantly beginning with each page refresh. As user changes next 5 pages (more or less), the font becomes less crisp...until next pages refresh. Over-blown issue if you have low expectations &/or are accustomed to crummy displays. Not over-blown if you are a 1'st time e-reader buyer with higher expectations...and no other e-reader experience.
