You could pose the same question about each of those pieces, and if folks attitudes are that no individual one needs to be protected, then it's that much easier for a bad guy to get all of them.

If three people each have one digit of a three digit combination, and each one thinks "what harm if someone gets my digit, it's useless without the other two" then I merely have to chat up all three people to get the combo.

If you're reasonably careful with everything then the bad guys have a harder time getting anything.

Take care of the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves, and so forth.

True. I remember seeing a breakdown somewhere. Just can't remember the site exactly.

1st digit: Card Type
3 = American Express
4 = Visa
5 = MasterCard
6 = Discover

Next 3 digits tells you which bank and I'm pretty sure I've seen a database of those.

I wonder if the books will be the UK versions (I hope so) or if folks in the US will have to buy the US versions.

I was just wondering the same thing. I hope that us Canadians get the UK versions in ebook. We had the UK versions in print. I will likely be buying them from the Kobo store.

Well, on Pottermore, you can select if you want US English or UK English, so they'll probably let you pick.

I don't think that will be possible as they're only going to be sold directly from the Pottermore site. That being said, I too want the UK versions and not the US one. We know what Christmas crackers are. LOL

I'm with all those that want the British versions, and I'm from the States. That whole "Sorcerer's Stone" bit bugs the hell out of me. Plus, I want all the British slang that got cut out of the earlier books. I realize that Harry wearing a jumper doesn't mean he's wearing a dress. :P

Price is my worry, but I'll probably end up buying them anyway. I've been thinking of investing in a paperback set; but with this announcement, I'll probably go with the ebooks to complement my hardcover copies. Kobo will not have the books (no coupons, darn). Pottermore is the only place they'll be available. I don't see why we (Canada) wouldn't get the UK text, since the paper books were.

Wasn't it mentioned that it will be available in multiple languages? I expect people would also have the choice between UK English and US English versions. Heck, buy both if you're so inclined.

The only translation I've seen is the French one. I really wish Menard would re-translate the fist books. He improved greatly between book 1 and 7. He managed to crack me up with the translation of the "holey" joke.

I don't read Latin or Greek myself, but I have fond memories of summers spent with my grandparents. During the hour before (my) bedtime, my grandfather would read aloud to my grandmother in some-language-my-sister-and-I-didn't-know, while we kids played quietly in the living room.

Decades later I learned from my grandmother that he was reading classic porn in the original Latin or Greek. Various love poems, the racier bits of Procopius' Secret History and the like. It seems that a pre-WWI education provided a useful knowledge of classic languages...
