Please let this be the case. It fits into the strategy in which other companies have used ARGs to promote upcoming products (the most recent example I can think of being Valve, potatoes, and Portal 2). If this is all just for an ARG and only an ARG though, I'll be very disappointed.

I'm crossing my fingers for a Potter MMO still. I think a lot of readers, including perhaps even Harry Potter fans, tend to disparage MMOs and more generally gaming as silly or unproductive activities, but if one ever came out, it could be huge in terms of impact and I think would even give WoW a run for its money.

WooHoo! She's partnering with Sony. It's coming in October. Does this semi-confirm the continuation of the Sony reader line? I do hope so.

Don't know but I am doing a major happy dance at FINALLY being able to get Harry in eBook and carry them all in one teeny little reader rather than carry the 7 tomes around. Which I wouldn't do anyways because I just couldn't but to have all 7 at once is such a thrill for me!

The JKR Hidden Treasure Quest contest is a farce and a travesty. It's unjustly fixed in favour of kids. They're smarter than we are so we don't stand a chance. Neil

No MMO alas, but it's looking like this is the alternative to "the Scottish Book" so I ain't complaining. And I can hear the anguished cries of millions of post-Deathly Hallows fanficcers as their stories and theories get Jossed by new Word of God.

I'm guessing the treasure hunt/ARG/whatever is part of what determines who the 1 million beta users are.

Many people believed that the release of the Potter series would mark a major milestone in the development of ebooks. I am one of those people and I find this announcement very exciting.
