there's something to be said for downloading books in 60 seconds, but with the amount of time i waste, in general, i don't think i can make an argument for it without looking like a hypocrite. manually adding, converting all that requires a computer, but like i said, i imagine the time lost is negligible. then again one less thing to worry about, and the less i'm tied to a computer adding things to my e-ink device, all the better(!).

As anamardoll said, those of us who contradict this statement, don't view the store as part of the device. So try to look at it from our perspective for a moment. If you look at what the device can do, and you compare the possible sources for ebooks, you have more options with the nook.

Actually, that isn't completely true. It's some users of kindle and some users of windows. And it is completely false when it comes to the members of this forum, because they actually know about most of the other options out there. They just choose to ignore them.

The only person who actually cited even anecdotal evidence for a locking issue is anamardoll, and, oddly enough, it was regarding a SONY user, not a Kindle user.
Everyone else just says "everyone else is locked with the Kindle" and gives no evidence of any kind.

I note the specific polls and threads asking about it here.
I note the overheard conversations in stores as I hang around the ereader counter (as I often do).
I note the lack of mention of customer concerns in the trade press.
I note the anecdotal evidence presented to me as an IT professional from a fairly wide circle of friends, colleagues and clients.

The people who are warning people away from Amazon because of "lock in/out" APPEAR to me to be basing it in on imagined worst-case scenarios and anamardoll's mom.
Correct me if there is anything else informing their opinion.

OK... The 125,000 was number of members... this is NOT the sample as they don't all contribute to these threads and actually very few are regular contributors hence actual sample size is much smaller...

Your "I note" remarks are anecdotal as they stand and as I said mine were... and , if you actually looked, you will find nowhere on the entire MR forum where I attack the Kindle or any other reader... what I attack are presentations, of individual's comments, discussions, unattributed quotes etc, as facts...

Well, I can only answer for my, uh, friend. Yeah.... that's it....my friend. She would just strip the DRM off those suckers and read those books on whatever device she pleases.
