Now we're being blanketed by the smoke from the brush/soil fires at the coast - I guess the wind changed - it's strong enough to make your eyes water and your throat scratchy! Smells like someone's burning rubbish in a 55 gallon drum in your back yard. Yecchh! No walking outside tonight (unless the wind shifts again).

Its horrible! I watched the smokebank roll in outside my office window and its permeated the whole building now. I can't imagine how the poor folk down in Dare County have handled this since May 5th when the fire started burning.

Weather.com keeps saying it's going to storm. Severely, even. It keeps breaking up or evaporating and never getting here. Weather.com has moved the red "severe" box around our forecast back for three days straight now, LOL. It's dark and I can hear thunder now, but radar shows nearest storm at maybe 20 miles away...I don't think I trust weather.com anymore.

Scattered t-storms. It's only 84F but it's so humid it feels icky outside. I hate having the AC on when it's below 86F but if I open the window it starts feeling like a tepid sauna in here.

Same here. I turned the a/c off when I went to work yesterday (but also kept the windows closed). It felt like a sauna in here when I got home, anyway.

When I was at Jekyll Island last week, smoke rolled in like clockwork about 4 in the afternoon, and cleared out after dawn each morning. It had apparently been happening for a couple of weeks, but I didn't know about it before I went. And I had smoke on the road last Wednesday morning for a couple of hours as I headed home, going northwest. I wonder if THAT smoke cloud was from the Okefenokee fires, since I was heading away from the coast.

There was a pretty big fire near Waverly in Camden County last week. Since it's straight west of Jekyll, it could have been from there as well.

As for here, it's sunny, upper 90s, and humid.

I used to really look forward to the Solstices (solsticei? solsteiciem?)
When I was in my mid-30's I was living with a woman who was a High Priestess for the local Wiccan coven, (which seemed to be made up of all young women.) On the Solstice (and a couple of other Druidic important dates,) they all used to go down to a small clearing along the nearby lake, make a bonfire, and dance naked around it, chanting prayers to heal Mother Earth. I thought this was a pretty noble thing to do, so didn't mind sitting and watching.

Today I get treated to a loooong day of rain.

bloke is spending his winter solstice in the bottom of the pool ginding out the rough bits. At least it is here if a little cool 20°C and breezy. Hope not too much ground concrete blows around and on the neighbours laundry. Next door is away and I took ours down before the start.

Ah, the good old days - when young women would gladly dance naked together for you. Whatever happened to those days? Nothing's quite the same any more. Oh, be sure to watch out for that big puddle over there, Stitchy.

I was excited about going to co-ed Onsen (hot springs spas) when I first moved to Japan. The pictures always showed one or two beautiful young women enjoying the springs. The reality is more akin to wannabee's photo. In 20 years of going to Onsen in Japan I have NEVER, NEVER, NEVER seen any women under the age of 143... Lots of young men, lots of kids with their fathers, but the wives and young women all go to the separated non-co-ed Onsens. It's not fair.
